I don't have my hands on this yet, it belongs to a friend. I'm told that when the HD is connected through the computer via the USB, windows will beep like it's recognized it....but then it never shows up anywhere. Any ideas? I was just gonna go to device manager and see if it needs assigned a different drive letter or something first. Thank for the help in advance!

It might help to force recognition of the drive by directly connecting external drive to the PC.

Physically remove the drive from the external enclosure and connect the drive directly to the PC, forcing recognition by 'found new hardware' Windows function after boot. The 'found new hardware' message should correctly identify the drive by model name. You'll know that both your BIOS and Windows will at least recognize the drive and that the drive is functional. Then put the drive back into your enclosure to see if it's recognized.

It might also help to power-on the external enclosure before starting the PC.

Hopefully, these steps will help both BIOS and Windows to recognize the external drive

These steps worked for me, but my external drive is connected by a blacX docking port via eSATA.

Hope this helps!
