Greetings,

I have a western digital external HD used for backup purposes which I connect to computers via an USB to IDE adapters. The HD works fine when I hook it up to my Windows XP box ( I can read/write to it ) but the problem occurs when I connect it to a Win2k box. The following happens: The usb connection is detected, I then open up the 'My Computer' icon and the HD "unmounts" by itself and the warning message appears saying something along the lines '...It's not safe to unplug usb devices without properly shutting them down first...'. Afterwards, Win2k crashes and I am left staring at the BSOD. Please note that the WinXP and Win2k box only have USB 1.1 ports. Any experiences with this kind of behaviour on Win2k?

Thanks
