Okay, I have two external hard drives, one is 100 gig the other 200 gig, anyways, i used the 100 gig one alot and all of a sudden one day i turned it on and i couldn't get it to show up in my computer. It was spinning up, just wouldn't show up. So i opened up computer managment and it just froze it up, i turn the drive off and everything goes normally.
So i thought maybe it was the enclosure somehow, so today i switched the enclosures on my drives and tried putting the 100 gig in the other enclosure, same results. So i put the hard drive in my tower and hooked it up and windows boots super slow and then same thing pretty much. The drive will show up in my computer, but it shows no data from it, and it's super slow. Basically like it's trying to talk to the drive but it won't talk back.
So i started putting stuff back together and kinda dropped the bad enclosure about 6 inches while i was on the ground and something poped out of it. i don't really know what it is, but maybe it's the problem. And if it is, what did it do to my drive? And how do i fix my 100 gig drive? It still spins up, so it must be electronics somewhere...
here are pictures.
The thing that fell off is here, maybe a capacitor...
Here is the circuit board on the external enclosure, i don't see where the thing came from, i see others like it though, so i think it's safe to assume the thing fell off this board and not the hard drive.
Here is the enclosure i have.
Here is the harddrive i have.
So anyone have any ideas. It'd be nice to get the stuff off this drive, about 100 gig of star trek episodes
