External Harddrive Cooling Question

I put a Maxtor 250 gig in a 3.5" Comp USA USB 2.0 External Enclosrue. It works great but the thing is the fan that came in it is the loudest most annoying fan I have ever heard.


You think it would hurt it to leave the fan off? Its just a data storage drive on my laptop system so all it really does is store music and doesnt get much access unless I am downloading.
 
i got one of the same enclosures.... is it to late to take it back?
mine makes almost no noise at all with the fan running

the drives get rather warm without a fan
usualy about 95-100F in a fully aluminum enclosure

consider replaceing the fan rather than just getting rid of it
