So I have a WD My Book Pro 500 gig (465 gigs total capacity)
It has been in use through a firewire 400 port on a G4 Cube as a kind of media center with 170ish gigs of movies, and another 60gigs of music. Maybe a gig of random files that have just found there way on to the disk, but nothing else.
All told thats about 230 gigs of used space, but today I noticed as I was about to turn the system off, that finder says that 465.xx space has been used, leaving me with only 14 megs. Thats a lot of storage space that just went out the window.
I found a little app (WhatSize) just to check and I looked through my files, and determined all the space and what not, so I'm not miscounting.
So I tried ejecting it, then trying it hooking it back up again, I tried restarting, I tried using it connected via USB, all with the same results.
I have a windows laptop around me, so I booted that up and connected it via USB, and it wouldn't detect it, stating that there was a driver issue (the exact error message escapes me). So I thought there might be something more mechanical at fault here, and so I disconnected it, and let it cool off (it had been running all day streaming music).
When I tried it again, it connected (as it usually does, I've used it on this laptop before) and found the same peculiar reporting of storage space as on the mac. I deleted some of the _Trashes files that I saw in the upper level directories and poked around for anything outstanding, but didn't see anything.
So now I'm coming here in the hope that someone can point out how stupid I am and that it is in fact something really easy to fix and I can continue on my merry way.
Tips? Advice? Help?
Thanks!
