Hey everyone, I have two hard drives, an 80gig WDJB and a 120gig WDJB that I placed into these external USB 2.0 enclosures... I Have them formated in FAT32 and was wondering if I should switch them to NTFS... Initially I wanted to have them in FAT32 so I could read them on linux boxes, win98 boxes, etc... but as I'm thinking more about it I'm more concerned with my data than having them be compatable.

So, I've just been wondering what the recommended file system for removable drives like that is... Thanks!
 
the only few advantages ntfs has is its large file size limits, journaling, security, and....

oh heck, switch to ntfs. linux understands ntfs now, and you could keep a small fat32 partition for the occasional win98 box.
 
NTFS. File system integrity and security makes much more sense to me. And if all else fails, just network the drives through an OS that understands NTFS and you should be good to go.

I wouldnt call the NTFS advantages small, huge advantages in recovery and data integrity
and in the event your using a kernel that cant access the drives there is always a Knoppix CD
