I recently bought a Bytecc ME-320 external enclosure, and stuck an 80 GB seagate hard drive in there. The drive worked fine when originally connected to the computer, and I was able to back up close to 20 GB of files. This was under Windows XP with I *think* (don't know as I was pulling the files off my dad's computer for him) SP1, using the built-in port on the dell motherboard.
Then I reformatted...
Install Windows XP, upgrade to SP2, and now whenever I connect the device windows says the device malfunctioned, and it shows up in the Device Manager as an Unknown Device.
I've tried disabling all power management (ie. not letting windows turn the USB hub off) - no.
I've tried it on 3 other computers (all of which are USB1.1), 2 of which have SP1, and the other having SP2 - no, to all of them, same error message.
Tried my laptop (T42p - XP w/ SP1), as it has USB2.0 - no, same thing.
All 4 of my USB thumbdrives work on all 5 of the tested computers, and USB printers are connected to 2 of them. Any help would be greatly welcome, thanks.
