Relative of mine is on windows 8 now and I can't seem to figure out how to get his old external usb hard drive to work. When I plug it in nothing prompts up, I don't even see anything in the device manager. His motherboard is an Asus P8H77-V LE and I went into the bios and setup the USB ports to auto-detect legacy devices. But still nothing shows up. I have also installed latest chipset drivers and nothing.

Am I missing something to use his usb external hard drive.
 
yup we backed up his prior windows 7 crap onto it, then we upgraded his whole system. So he's on a new motherboard, new ssd, practically all new computer except case and power supply. Any usb port I plug it into nothing prompts up and still not being detected. Im wondering if it's a bios issue cause his bios is not latest. But im not near the computer to do anymore trouble shooting steps
