I am looking to buy a new external drive that I can take to Iraq with me. I want something with lot's of space on it. I actually bought the ST3400601U2-RK from newegg but they ended up not having it in stock and refunded me. I'm shopping again and found the Cavalry CAUE37500 500GB for about $135 (includes shipping). It doesn't have firewire which I wanted but I am willing to settle for just USB2.0 knowing I will be getting a new laptop soon (my desktop is usb 1 and has firewire). I like seagate since they are quiet and reliable and am not sure if the CAUE37500 would be like that or not.
