external drive: MAC + PC?

So a customer of mine has a Maxtor external drive.

He used it copy about 8000 songs from iTunes to.

Then he decides he wants to copy some files from his MAC to it.

Now it won't read the drive on either the PC or the MAC.

It gives him some kind of FAT32 error (he was pretty vague, as usual).

Now what? Is this data gone? Any way to recover it?
 
Maybe... You're going to have to find out a few more specifics before a real answer can be given.

Offhand, thats where the money lies... the exact error.

I know I know, end-users suck at relaying the juicy bits of information that make ya go "Hell, there's the problem!"
