Some users have recently had their accounts hijacked. It seems that the now defunct EVGA forums might have compromised your password there and seems many are using the same PW here. We would suggest you UPDATE YOUR PASSWORD and TURN ON 2FA for your account here to further secure it. None of the compromised accounts had 2FA turned on.
Once you have enabled 2FA, your account will be updated soon to show a badge, letting other members know that you use 2FA to protect your account. This should be beneficial for everyone that uses FSFT.
I have a Seagate 120GB/8MB drive connected via this external enclosure. Is there any more risk involved running this drive 24/7 versus one that is directly connected inside the PC? TIA.
let it run for a good 3 hours and mesure the temp on it
some of the external enclosures do not have good cooling
if the drive is resonably cool (under 105f) then i would say its safe tu run it 24x7
if its running really hot i would say only use it when u have to or get a enclosure with a fan
they cost about $5-10 more
but they are worth it
the 200gb external i have has a fan in it and it runs a grand total of 5f over ambiant temp and its near dead silent
I had an external drive that kept dieing after a couple weeks.
Basically I got it, it worked fine, I moved, the hard drive died, got an RMA, it died, another RMA, it died, etc
Finally I realized that the location I had my enclosure wasn't ventilated well. So after I got my new RMA, I moved the enclosure to where there were no obstructions above or near the sides (ontop of my case) and the drive has been running 24/7 for almost a year.
