I'm looking to keep my wc system in a external case. i've seen some plastic tubs but that is too cheap looking for me. i thought about a shuttle case or small/modified computer case. shuttle cases run around $60 shipped on ebay. are there any other options for a small case to hold my wc system? i know antec($100) has a minipc case and so does lian li($175), but i want something cheaper. what do ya'll suggest?

until I had a custom box made for mine, I had thought use a mini atx case and just mod the front of the case to look more boxish- if thats a word. I remember a link on the System Cooling site where some one took a mini atx case and created a nice external box.

You can make one yourself very cheaply if you want to go that route. Just go buy some angled aluminum/steel bar, a few flat sheets of aluminum/steel or plexi, and some self tapping screws to put it all together.

Go to the link in my sig. It's the one I'm still using and the case build was free (old AT case). The water cooling parts are what cost the big bucks..............

Here's a link to another one free box I built:

i have a question about the pump. if i use a ac pump do i plug it into a regular outlet or a pci relay switch like criticool? does this automatically shut the power off to the pump when the computer is turned off? is this necessary? what happens if the pump is still pushing water when the computer is off? thats ok right?

If you have an AC pump in an external water box then you would plug it into an outlet, the relay switches generally have to be in reach of a molex connecter, and if you have one of those running from the computer to the box that negates the purpose of having an external unit....unless you can somehow strap the two together and make it so they can be moved that way, or do a mod like what bio-hazard did with his nice black wbox. but then he used an DC pump and modded a molex connecter on to the end of a power cable and such, it's described in his work log much better.

anyways, yes if you have a relay switch and it's set up right the pump will turn off with the computer. no, it's not necessary, i've left my pump running for hours after i turned off my computer and all it did was waste electricity, and yes that's okay unless you're on a strict budget and can't afford to waste utilities.
