I'm looking for an external harddrive to backup some important school data from my laptop and just to backup a large music archive from my main desktop. I thought about backing up my IBM laptop on my desktop drives, but windows networking is a pain in the ass and the automatic backup doesnt want to work over the network. I was just checking to see what reccomendations you all hard for external harddrives. Also should I just buy an external drive or should I buy an enclosure and put a drive into that? Thanks for your suggestions.

Depends on if you want the pretty box and usless software.
$30.00 will get a decent enclosure.
$100.00 or less will get a pretty big HD.
250GB Maxtor external is around $200.00
Windows networking works better if you have a router, or a crossover cable.
