External Backup Drives

I've been poking around, looking up some reviews of various drives. Was thinking about getting a usb/firewire drive (somewhere at least 80 gig), which would lead to Maxtor or WD. Then I saw a product called Netdisk (looks like two different vendors) that can attach via USB or Ethernet - which could be cool to hook into the router.

Anyways, just wondering if anyone has experience with a Netdisk, or has recommendations for external drives? I'd like at least 80 gig, and spend in the $100-$140 range.

I just built an external USB drive.
You can get a case from Newegg for $40 or less depending on the brand etc.
and then just buy a PATA drive.
250GB drives are around $115.00 + 30.00 for a case would make a nice one.
I got in on the WD 300GB MIR...$118.00 after rebate and 39.95 for a venus case... it's really nice, got a built in fan and power switch.

Check out the egg and see what you can put together.

Yeah, prolly the cheaper route would be to simply build my own. But then I still would have to get the backup software. Which, though the bundled stuff is surely a bit on the "lite" side, it's still better than nothing. Also, I'm trying to find stuff I can get via amazon, as I have a decent-sized gift cert to use from there.

Give you a suggestion. Go to pricewatch.com. Click into hard drive category. You can find the things you want there. You will have a lot of choices.

Well, ended up picking one up yesterday, should arrive today or tomorrow. It's a SimpleTech STIUSB235120 120 GB, USB 2.0. Got a 2.0 card coming from the 'Egg as well.

Well, thing is, the Amazon gift cert came from points racked up from business travel, so it really didn't cost me anything. And, if/when the day comes, I can always swap in a bigger/faster drive into the enclosure. I'm sure this'll work just fine for my needs, and not have to mess with rebates.
