So i need to get wireless n across the street to my other building. i tried the hawkings wireless n extender and that is the biggest piece of crap on the planet. looking for other alternatives. are there any you guys can think of? I also have a coax line running under the street, not sure if i can do anything with that. I need as fast of speeds as possible. transmitting large files.
 
Does your wireless N router have removable antennas? If so, then go buy or build a directional antenna. Depending on the distance, you can use cantennas, yagi, and for long links parabloic antennas. Though you'll need a fairly clear line-of-sight view (no forests).
 
it does indeed allow for plugging in antennas. I need to go about 200 feet through one cinderblock wall. what kind of antenna would you recommend?
 
Is there anyway to mount an antenna+router to the outside of the wall?
Though you can probably shoot the signal through the wall, I'm not sure how much signal it will lose by doing that.
If its 200ft, and visible, then a home built cantenna will work, and pretty much any decent panel antenna will work. You'll need to get two, one for each side.
What type of router do you have? You need to look up the connector on it.
Linksys routers generally have RP-TNC, so a RP-TNC male to N-male is needed.
Most antennas use N-Female connectors.
