Extend Laptops Wireless range

I have a toshiba u205 laptop that has a weak built in wireless lan card. I want to connect to a hotspot thats a bit further than what my laptop can pickup. Sometimes i can pick it up but the signal is low. Is there anything out there like an external antenna or a extender that can boost the coverage area? Thanks
