Exteme overclocks: X1800XT

there are some more 1800xt doing over 700 on the core with stock cooling.Macci got 740 with default cooling and no volt mods.

his dry ice o/c was limited by the software to get any higher.

how high can gtx's get with stock cooling

Can you or someone else post some links showing these cores with stock cooling OCing over 700?

heres one doing 691on air cooling out the box.

and theres a post with macci getting like 740 with his with stock cooling over there also.

Not bad I guess. Maybe these will OC a little higher than average. But if this is the only related stories so far then who knows for sure.

90nm Geforce will be nice, higher clock and ideally improved
design -- as always -- evolution.

What bothers me is the next gen games struggling with 1600x1200,
EQ2/Fear can't play well with high rez enabled? Are programmers
just getting more lazy or what? At least Carmack make efforts to
optimize his games for performance, who else is doing this?

:(
I ask the same question on why my 9800 Pro cant run games on max settings anymore.

Also I dont know what you people are talking about but it doesnt cost much at all to make a dry ice cooling system. Plus the AMD and Intel thingy can be canceled out with the 16 pipes vs 24 pipes.

Doesnt cost much at all to make DI system? Well I dont know the specifics or how much it might cost, but if its so cheap and easy to do why arent more people doing it? Also AFAIK its only a temporary solution, gotta keep stocked up on DI.

Because you have to check it every few minutes and it condenses. I think viperlairer has some articles on making it. Cant remember but I beleive its them.

More reasons why your average user wont be doing this type of cooling. Most will be on stock cooling, a few after market air coolers, and a few on water. I doubt we see anymore than usual doing extreme cooling just because of a few instances showing uber insane clocks.

Dry Ice is good only for an ORB run. It can achieve below ambient temps for only a few minutes before it all evaporates. It probably took Macci a day's worth of work to prepare his testbed for a dry ice (protecting against condensation etc) and he had to fill the dry ice tank, fire it up, make the run, and get it shut down before he ran out of coolant and cooked his card. The dollar cost is low (dry ice is cheaper than milk or gas), but it has no actual practical use for day-to-day computing.

This shows that the card can do insane speeds under extreme conditions. I am sure that many other PC components that something like this would be tried on would see similar results.

DI cooling is very impractical but cool for the purpose it serves.

Well Said.

Good read.. its nice to hear some fight from the red corner for a change (seems like there have been 100s of threads in the past week from the green corner saying that the card was going to suck.. even though it wasnt even released lol..)

What do you expect from people who have laid out $400+ for GT/X cards? They'll do their best to make themselves feel better that they made the right choice by not waiting.

why is it that everyone benchmakrs 3dmark05? can we get some benchmarks on the current graphic card owning game? F.E.A.R. or BF2?
or how about Chronicles of Riddick at max quality setting? OR EQ2 at the highest quality possible? jeez, crazy euros can't stick to whats important.
i dont like 3dmark 2050 eaither, but it does give a refrence on what the card is able to handle.......

try running 3dmarok05, its actualy kinda hard for it to stay smooth, its a rough video card test to go through, ate my 9600 for breakfast i got a 1200 score i think :p

but its just a refrence more than anything else
