Hello everyone,

I'm working on project for work.. I'll save you the gorry details but the end result is a bunch (+/- 500,000 8MB files) When I browse the the directory in explorer it chokes. It takes about 10 minutes to list the files. Does anyone know of a registry hack or have any other ideas? The files are "dpx" files, which is a video frame. They are not associated with any programs.

Thanks

Thus is life with Windows...

We have a server that has hundreds of directories each with millions of files. It's not possible to manage this using anything that comes with Windows. We've had to write our own tools to manage these directories. If there was a way, we would know because we spent two months working on this with MS engineers... There some things you can do to help, but nothing will solve the problem.

Explorer insists on reading the complete list of files before displaying due to the way it is written. Doing file operations on directories with that many files is typically easier at the command line.
