Okay... here's the problem...

It may be simple, but the point is that I havn't thought of it.

I've had two computers with this same problem and I'm trying process which factors are prevailant between both systems...

My audio has this problem where it pops and crackles... I've elimintated the variable of my soundcard, as it does that with my onboard and it did it on both computers that had different soundcards.

I used the same botherboard model for both (not the exaclt same) on one I had a ASUS A7N8X and the one I'm on now is a ASUS A7N8X-E...

My CPU is the same model (not same physical unit).. .Barton 2500

My ram is the exact same.

My soundcard is Audigy 2 ZS...

I'm lost and confused...

here's what I"ve thought could be it...


* physical location of the computer ( I have it on my glass desk about 1 foot away from my monitor... my case is a Lian Li PC7
* Overheating... my probe software reports 60c's

Well if anyone can help that would be great!....
 
60c as in proc temp?

that's kinda high.

maybe try cleaning your heatsink, or getting a better one with good themal paste (ceramique)?

latest Drivers? different pci slot for audigy?
 
I've heard that the southbridge on the nforce2 mobo's need some cooler with a heatsink or something, otherwise when they overheat weird things start happening like usb keyboards not working, onboard sound cracking etc. But your using an Audigy card, not the onboard sound so..

Well just a thought.
 
Yes, Latest drivers... and it's in a non-shared PCI slot...

Yeah that temp is high, but I don't belive it ;)...

I'ma fix that in a bit...

I think it's reading wrong... I can play UT2k4 for like an hour and it repeats the same data of 60
 
Creatives drivers are classic for that. Are you running this off of the same XP install? If so, the creative drivers may do funky stuff even for your onboard sound.

I had the same problem, so I reinstalled windows (without the sound card in). Then manually installed the latest drivers, rather than the ones windows defaults to.
 
I've got updated drivers for my Audigy... but you think if I install windows w/o the audigy in it'll help?... can I just do a over-top install?... cause I'd hate to have to redo everything...

Yeah I'm running the same type of windows... but not the same installation... it's windows XP pro...

Anyone else... so far all of you had something useful. THANKS! this problem is driving me craZy
 
Bump once... just to make sure everyone gets a chance :)... I'm going to try what everyone suggested tomarrow...

but about that driver setup you were talkin' about intercollector... is there a way I can do that without reinstalling?...
 
I think it's driver related - I'm having similar problems with my SB Live Plat and Winfast sound cards - both play perfectly fine in Win98SE but not as good in WinXP...

You should definately look into this. It's a common problem with cooked NF2 southbridges.
 
My Soundblaster Live! 5.1 did weird things, like the sound quality would be all muddled for a while and then boom! all of a sudden it's great. Creative's drivers do not exactly impress me, so none of my computers is using the Creative soundcard anymore. Maybe when Microsoft writes drivers for the card, I'll use it, but probably not.
 
I had the exact same problem with my A7N8X as did a good friend of mine. The solution ended up being a strange one for the both of us ... Is your kb plugged into USB or PS/2? It turned out with the both of us that some very strange anomoly caused this problem for both of us when the kb was plugged into USB. So try your kb in PS/2 port, strange I know, but worth a try. And before anyone else comes around flaming me for making such a stupid suggestion ... don't, I had this problem for well over 2 months, and the only thing I ever tried was this PS/2 thing, and it fixed the prob right away, so whether you think its stupid or not, its definitely worth a try. (it fixed my buddys problem too)
 
Well so far I've tried everything...

A note on the HS for the chipset... South bridge aye?... even though I'm using a PCI Sound Card... I may resort to that at the end...

Any other suggestions... I tried the keyboard thing as well..!

It's getting worse now...

Please help :)
