I was just wondering if any of you guys had purchased refurbished items from newegg and how they were holding up...ie, is it worth it to buy the much cheaper refurb over the brand new item

depends on what your purchasing, and how comfortable you are w/ purchasing the "refurb." Basically it's a gamble, depending on what you purchase. I've purchased computer cases from the Refurb section, save about $50, and was happier then could be. But i doubt i'd purchase a video card/mobo/processor/ram from a refurb section b/c they are more extensive parts then a few slabs of metal. That's just how i feel about it, but NewEgg does have awesome RMA service, so if you do buy a mobo/processor/etc... and it's bad, you should be able to easily RMA it and get your money back or a replacement.

I just got a shuttle AN35N-Ultra and saved myself about $30 on it by getting the refurb. When it arrived all the packaging inside was still factory sealed so it was never even used. But you do gamble a bit on it so newegg is the only way to go in my opinion for their awesome customer service reps!

I got a refurb'd 9800pro and it crapped out about 6 days later.

Not sure if it was from the OC or not :)

I bought a retail one and it's holding up fine though..

On their hand, they did take it back and fully refund me.

I just got a reburb Asus A7N8X-delux mb to play around with a 2400+ mobile. It came in a white box without any accessories. It booted up with no problems. So far so good. I need to play and tweak the system this weekend.

Mixed reviews here - I've bought a few refurb items from the Egg. The 2 Shuttle mobos I bought kinda worked. One wasn't stable, and the other had some bad traces on the PCB that were patched with wire - which was fine, but the 3rd mem slot didn't work. The Epox refurb board I bought is the best mobo I've had bar none, and I still use it today. Dont know if I'd go there again. I think I'd just pay a little more for a new item with a full warranty.
