Well i got a new computer, my old one was like only powerful enough to run d2: lod...and my new one has got x850xt pe amd 3500 + 1 gig ram dual channel etc (see specs in sig). i used to game on a xbox, and the graphics are ok on that, but when getting my new comp, i put on doom 3, and put it on ultra, it has no lag what so ever, and can run at about 70/80 fps on ultra...but the graphics arent as good as i thought they would be. this may just be me, because all my m8s sed the graphics are mind blowing/amazing, but it wasnt up to my standards, even half-life 2 n far cry are good but not what i thought theyd be..

but the graphics are waaaaay better than the xbox... :)

ne1 else have the same issue?

hehe...no i just expected it to be better, like (not to the standards, and only example i can think of atm) the graphics on matrix: revolutions..not that good obviously, but similar to that..i dnt know whether im being silly, and i know how insanely demanding the graphics are atm, i guess i expected better lol, but dont get me wrong they are good:)
 
Try downloading some of the Ruby Demo's from ATI's website and then let us know what you think. They push the card a little further than any games today currently do because they are written specifically for the X800 series and don't have to cater to the "lowest common denominator" like most games.
 
Umm. Are you naive or something? These are the latest and greatest in terms of Videogame graphics. Cinematography graphics are obviously better.
 
no im not...but is there anything wrong with expecting more?
 
You got a awesome mainstream graphic card man, should be happy man, shouldn't expect too much, you can run games on max reso and max setting, and it totally owns my 6600GT.
 
well lets really see the graphics power...if that guy was right, about the ruby demos, then hopefully ill see better graphics im downloading the ruby demos..and yeh i am happy, but just not satisfied if that makes sense lol:p

You know what. You should be quiet. There are plenty of people on these boards who would love your rig. So stop being so ungrateful, and enjoy the 100FPS you get in most games.

no kidding. :eek: Were you expecting photo realism? I can't see how you could have been gaming on sh*t like xbox and call farcry, hl2, and doom 3 visually unimpressive. Please tell me this is you're own april fool's joke, if not, how bout this, i'll trade you TWO really uber xboxs for that dissapointing rig of yours, good deal? :p Unless you're a total n00b and you're playing @ a 640X400 res, you should appreciate what you have man.
 
In the doomconfig.cfg file you can change your downsize limits so you have more textures available, made an impressionable difference for me.

i apolloogize I read this incorreectly. But graphics cannot geyt better without teextures getting better. However your card will support better textures.
 
Quick question, if you have bad graphics why complain about the vid card? Shouldnt it be the game maker you should complain about?
 
Up to your standards? I'm really wondering what your standards are. Half Life 2, Farcry, and Doom 3 all represent the most mind blowing graphical games out there right now. You simply wont see any real time things better than this right now, no where, period.

It takes a rendering farm days and months to render those seens in movies like the matrix and such. The whole fact that ATi and Nvidia put out cards that go along with the above games and can play them smoothly and the games are even half way as good as rendered movies is amazing.

I'd honestly kill for your rig, and so would many others, be at least grateful that you have the money to buy it.......

Also, "Leet Speak" like M8 and sed pisses me off. Leave it in the AOL Chatroom, take the 20 milliseconds more to type out a full word.
 
I think he started this thread just to get a reaction...because noone is going to agree with him that the graphics in HL2 and particularly D3 aren't mind-blowing.

Calm down guys just move on. This is one mans perception of the current games out their today. Some of us havent delt with this stuff (Games) all of our lives and are simply out of whack with the power needed to render such scenes on a single CPU and Graphics Card.
Personaly I was blown away but I think you are just setting your standards a bit to high. You have to put it in the perspective of Video games and Video games only.
 
u guys r taaaaaaaaaaaaking me all wrong, i said the graphics are tonnes better than the xbox, and i didnt say the graphics were bad, i think theyre good, but i expected more is there anything wrong with that?...and yeh my issue is with the game developers not the graphics card...i just didnt know where to post it.
 
are you using aa/af and a resolution higher than default? If you're sitting there playing half life 2 @ 800x600 with no aa/af and medium details, yea, it will look dissapointing.

well i guess u im being stupid the graphics are really good on the pc...waaaaaaaaaay better than xbxox, ive sed that countless times now, and ive downloaded sum demos on my pc..that show its graphics to full use....and i am satisfied now :)

ATI Cards can do HDR, SM3.0 and HDR arnt the same thing.

Which is a load of rubbish. All 'HDR' requires is a PS2.0 card with 64bit FP colour or higher. Even a 9500 can do it, super slow, but it can do it.

Only way it would look better on an nvidia card would be to use 128bit FP colour (which ATI cards dont support), but you'd be hard pushed to see ANY difference between 64bit and 128bit FP colour right now.

If anything, ATIs image quality is slightly better (with the AA and AF)

Dont post rubbish, both Nvidia and ATI have the same amount of quality, In terms of HDR, with ATI pulling a slight lead with AA and AF, although it's doubtfull you'll notice it in game.

Edit: Woops, I just noticed that with the second image I posted, Hard didnt turn on AA witht eh Ultra, so nvmnd, sorry about that

Actually - even with AA enabled, having owned both soutions, I still regard ATI's implementation to be the better of the two. AF, however, as one might expect, is a different argument altogether.

What resolutions, AA and AF are you running?
 
when im playing on ultra?....i use 1600 by 1200...completed the game and havent tried aa/af...because i completed it like straight away and couldnt be asked to check my framerates with aa/af...

now, i play all the games on 1600 by 1200 and max aa/af and highest settings ...

Do you still think it doesn't look as good with AA and AF enabled? Have you changed your opinion about the graphic quality now?
 
to tell u the truth at the beginning i thought the graphics on the computer were amazing...but i just felt (at the time) slightly disappointed..but yes i am extremely pleased with the graphics :)
