My parent's have a fairly large house, and while the wireless G connects well in the living room, it doesn't reach all the way to my parent's room.

What is the most sensible way to improve the wireless connectivity so it reaches to the other end of the house?

Running longer wires would be the simplest, but it's far from preferred.
I'm not sure if wireless N makes much of a difference, but both my parent's laptops would need a external card to utilize it.

They told me that they tried a "wireless booster", but while it helped boost the connectivity in the bedroom, it disabled the router in the living room.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions

Yep, what Protoform linked you to is easiest.

You can also get an old WRT54G or something, flash Tomato or DD-WRT firmware on it and do the same thing. Sometimes it's the cheaper route, but definitely not as easy as just hooking something in and popping in the password for your existing network.
