Hello.

I just put together a new build:
Asus p8p67m-pro bios: 0412
i5-2500k
8gb g skill ripjaw
crucial c300 64gb ssd
xfx 6950 2gb gpu

when trying to install windows it keeps hanging forever at "expanding windows files 0%"

i am booting right now from an external optical drive through usb if that makes a difference.

i've searched around the forums a bit but haven't come across anything that helps.

any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks!

Of my past similar problem, it's the optical drive's fault. I changed to a different DVD drive and it has been working great since then. Sometimes I would stuck at expanding files, other times it would error out saying a certain file can't be found. It was really the DVD drive's fault in my case. You might want to try a different DVD drive and see if it would make any difference.

yea an internal sata drive ..there cheap on newegg....even at best buy and such there fairly reasonable if you cant wait....

did you figure out what was causing it? I get same problem but after a while windows says something about files being corrupt etc.

Going to buy another SATA dvd burner

Optical drive, 9/10 times, is what causes this IME.

USB installs are 3x faster and work fine when you can't force an optical-media install. We had a whole whack of workstations do this at work during our w7 upgrade. -_-.

My windows dvd was corrupt-tried burning .iso file off it and it failed many times. Finally got an iso file off a torrent used my current windows key and it worked.
