I'm not an apple guy so I'm not sure where to go with this. My son has an external USB drive that had two partitions on it - one HFS+ and one NTFS. He's decided to delete the NTFS partition and wants the whole drive for his Mac filesystem. I fired up gpartd on a stand-alone system and have deleted the NTFS partition, but I can't seem to expand the HFS+ partition to fill the whole disk. Gpartd will let me move it or shrink it but I can't expand it.
I've googled around a bit and it seems like this is a known problem - that HFS+ partitions can't be expanded. Before I give up and use the backup / delete partitions / build new partitions / restore method I thought I'd give it a shot and ask here: anybody know of a tool that will do this in place?
