EXOS Cooling Problem

I have modded my A7N8X-Dlx ver 2 board to include glued on heat sinks (HS) on my voltage regulators (VR) that feed the CPU. After noticing that these HS's were getting very hot I took one of those plastic ducting mods and bolted it to the case and aimed it at the HS's. (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=35-999-118&depa=1). It has worked very well for cooling off my VR's.

Unfortunately there has also been a side effect that it drops my EXOS readout about 8-10*F. Has anyone else seen this come up? I don't believe that an 80mm fan would cool off the water block that much to drop to those water temps. I wonder if the fan is actually cooling off the wire or probe and that is causing the decreased shown temps. The fan is actually blowing air past the VR's, the H20 cooled NB, and the inlet/outlet side of the water block. If I turn off the fan the temps go back to normal within 60 seconds. My main concern is that I am running this setup quite hot and want to have a good idea of what is actually going on before I have a meltdown :D
 
The waterblock probe is grossly inaccurate. Read your CPU temps from MBM or some other program that takes and actual reading from the CPU core. My EXOS is off by about 15C.
 
You're right, the fan is cooling the temp probe, with very little effect on the actual CPU or water temps. Try to read the CPU temp from its on-chip probe, that won't be affected by moving air in the surrounding area.
 
since the exos temp probe is attached to the cpu block so really its more of a water temp reading then a cpu temp reading.

Apprently it's more of an air temperature sensor, judging by the fact that a little airflow resulted in a drop of 8-10*. If i remember correctly, it just sits on top of the block. Being separated from the water by a layer of plastic, it's probably reading cloer to air temp.

your probably right but its not like its exposed to the air directly since its on the bottom of the block.

i really dont know why koolance even has the probe there. id be much more effective if it was taped right to the cpu.

Oh, I thought it was on the top embedded in the plastic. Well the base is a little better, but still not great.

you can see the two places under the block where they suggest you to tape the temp probe...

Judging by the distortion in the reflection of that block I would say the block doesnt look perfdectly flat. Would this be a big problem? Or is there "enough" touching the core?
 
Hey thanks for all the input! I just got back from Florida and just checked the board. Decided to leave the fan in as it really cools off my voltage regulators as I have about 1.95v going through them to the cpu.

Next time I am bored I will take the Koolance waterblock off and drill a hole so I can insert a thermocouple closer to the cpu and glue it in with some silicon goop :)

Believe me I got one and it´s mirror smooth really. Much smoother than my old ALPHA 8045.
 
Just a quick addendum :)

I applied some RTV sealant to the area around the area where the wire probe comes out of the block and the temps went back close to normal.
