exesive HDD activity at times...

sometimes both of my HDs - see sig, will start to access, and i dont mean just once, but iam talking about 100% accessing. you hear em going at it, sounds like the HD is defraging or something similar or moving LOTSSS of files.... i checked that. i closed BT, uninstalled disk kepper 10...

are there any apps that can tell me whats using my HD the most?

Give Process Monitor a try, perhaps?

vista ultimate, latest updates, etc. norton corp 10 - fully updated. spy sweeper, spy bot.

Vista is likely indexing your system, and files. Every time you add something new it's likely to go crazy for a bit.

Control alt del then task mgr and click performance monitor. You can see the disk activity and the processes that are using the disk. You can then sort it from high to low.

Vista automatically defrags your system.

can i turn off the auto defrag from happening around 1 - 2 AM? lol woke me up last night when my raptor (outside of the case for now) started seeking data.....

I don't believe you can, but I don't run Vista nor have I done extensive research on it. I just remember the little tid bits from the OS forum here.

yeah, you can choose what days and times it runs or turn it off completely, although i wouldnt recommend turning it off completely

and like mentioned, every time you install or uninstall or make big changes it will rape your HDD for a while
