Police officials in Mexico City have started a new program that allows residents to swap machine guns for computers and smaller guns for Xbox consoles.

Launching the program on Tuesday in the notorious inner-city barrio of Tepito, which police stormed last month, city police chief Joel Ortega said anyone who turns in a high-caliber weapon like a machine gun will get a computer. Owners can swap smaller guns for cash or Xbox video-game consoles under the plan.

So people will turn in their guns, get the consoles, re-sell them and buy new guns/

Heh, sad part about it that it's always the good people who gives up the guns and the bad people keeps them

If you are bad, why trade in your gun? Use your gun to get free computers and consoles!

Heck, i would trade Xboxes for guns :D

And have you seen the going price for machine guns that have all their paperwork here in the US? Sure, i'll sell my comp to you for a suppressed UZi

I have 2 SKS's but I don't want to trade them for a damn xbox what do they think I'm stupid.

If they want to get the guns out of mexico they should just offer free drugs and hookers for guns............even I'd think about that deal.:D

How is a machine-gun a high-caliber weapon? Rifles go up to .50 caliber, pistols can be found in .60, yet machine guns can be found in as small as .22 caliber.

Good to see we have educated people writing these articles.

Still idiotic. Mexico is one of the most chaotic countries in the world, and I guarantee a gun has far more worth than a PC.

Hmm.. I wonder how many people that kept their guns are going to follow those who just gave theirs away and take their new computers/xboxes...

how bout they give em jobs instead of enabling them to sit on their asses some more...stupid fucking mexican government

They might have meant high caliber as in a description for a very potent gun... not as in the actual caliber of the ammunition.

That's like saying "High-Speed Computer" and then saying you were referring to the wheels on the case that made it easy to move.

No, thats a bad analogy.

When somone tells me I have a high caliber computer, it's interpreted as in that I have a high end computer with a high potential.

When somone says that a bomb is a high caliber, that means it's very effective in it's very own potential, it doesn't refer to the actual size of the bomb.

Part of Speech: adjective 1
Definition: better

If I know Tepito (and I sort of do), people will just steal guns from someone else to turn in. It's a pretty rough place.

...Exactly.... a GUN is worth a shitload more than a stupid computer.

A friend of mine's dad legally owned a Tommygun, his dad passed away so he had to sell it. It sold for somewhere around $25,000. It included the transfer license or something that is grandfathered but not available any longer.

Give a man a fish, he eats for a day, teach a man to fish and he will... well anyway, with the gun I can steall all the ocmputers I want :p

Bagdes, I dont need no stingking badges :D

I agree that I would trade PCs and Xboxes for guns! I have sold a few new PS2 games and used the cash to purchase a new rifle, so in a roundabout way Sony has purchased me a firearm! I guess Sony is not all bad.....

I know what you mean. My uncle legally owns a semi-auto Tec-9 in Texas, can't get 'em like that anymore. Legally, he can't even sell it I believe.

My stepdad died a few years ago and left his sons all of his guns. He had a shitload of semi auto's. His sons had a hell of a time trying ot sell them. Don't know if they ever did though.

How did they have a hard time selling these things? You are aware that there are places like gunsamerica.com selling preban guns right? You are aware that you can sell a preban depending on your local laws right?

Are you aware that some people aren't always as aware as you are?

I wasn't aware that some people are not as aware as I am aware :D

owwwww :)

I think the problem was that they weren't all legally licensed. I don't really remember as that was 8/2004 and I didn't realy have much part in the dividing up of things.

Oh so they were basically illegally obtained? Hmm yeah then that would be a problem ;)

Best bet then would be to go to a swap meet or take a cruise in the ghetto :D

I don't know how he got a hold of them. He had a lot of them for 40 or so years (he was about to turn 60) which was long before I was born or even came into the picture. I don't know what they eventually did with them, don't really care either. The ghetto cracked made me laugh though, thanks.

And with that, Ockie wins the thread.
