my system is a dual xeon 2.66/533, 3GB ram, radeon 9800pro, 2 seagate SATA hds, sblive, 2 dvd burners, a usb card reader, and maybe a couple other small things. case is antec lan boy, with 2 120mm fans, one front, one rear.

my powersupply (enermax 460W EG465P-VE FM 24pin), and it puts an excessive amount of heat out the back end. enough that this one computer can heat my computer room 4-8 degreesF higher than the rest of my apartment.

im pretty sure that the PS fan is plugged into the proper fan connection on the board, so i guess i could recheck that, but can someone maybe shed some light as to why this thing runs so hot?

Power supply fans are not powered or controlled by "power supply connections on the board."

The fact that it's actually moving air that you can feel means it's working.

Are you sure the heat is coming from the power supply and isn't just being pumped THROUGH the power supply?

well, the case has a 120mm fan right below it, and the air comming out of it is quite considerably cooler.

Then let's make sure that fan isn't robbing the PSU from getting cool air. What happens if you disconnect that fan leaving only the PSU fan as the exhaust from the rear?
