I noticed how all the office/electronics big box stores are still selling sandy bridge i3's.

There must be a shitload of inventory left. Last week, Intel said their sales would drop for the remainder of the year.

but SB i3 laptops are still priced at $400+. Pretty dumb they're not dropping prices to below $350 if you ask me.

If they provided rebates to OEM's that would allow big price drops, maybe more people would buy. Increased revenue, decreased margin. so what

1). Between Windows 8 and proximity to the holidays, it'd be stupid to drop prices now, only to do it again in two months or so. Better to drop prices once.

2). Flooding the market now to increase unit sales would be bad. People buying low-margin computers now would cut in to the number of people buying higher-margin parts over the next 3-5 years. This, on top of the already low-profit, stagnant PC market, would be pretty dire for OEMs. The race to the bottom has done no-one any favors.
