I have a lot of old Excel spreadsheets (backbone to an older piece of software that is too good to get rid of). Obviously at some point we need to upgrade these spreadsheets to Excel 2007.

Before I do this, should Excel 2007 be backwards compatible with the macros in Excel 97?

Bump from last page.

I cannot get the old spreadsheets to work. Is there anyway for Excel 2007 to support Excel 97 VBA? I really thought this software was supposed to be backwards compatible.

MS kinda went a different way with Office 07 and change a few things. VBA has no doubt change since 97 so i'm not sure how much luck you will have with this.

Sorry i couldn't be more help

One thing I have definitely noticed in updating old macros for Excel and Access 2007 is that if you have any code which saves the file as an excel spreadsheet .xls (from old excel) sometimes that has to be updated. In Access you have to change it to .XLS (2000-2003 format), I forget what exactly it is in Excel 2007.

Other than this all of my old macros have worked. If you could post your 97 script that could help us help you. Maybe we could sort it out for you.

I am going to try and keep it in *.xls [compatibility mode] (not *.xlsm, that broke it even more).

One consistent problem I get is with ANYTHING "ActiveSheet.crap", such as...

ActiveSheet.ChartObjects(1).Copy

...no matter where it is I get a '1004' error. That may help clear somethings up for me. Remember, this was written using VBA from 1997. I am not sure how much different 2003 VBA would be.

its 11 years old are you sure you shouldnt be rewriting this using a more modern language

what does it do exaclty?

As far as I know, does Excel not use the same language it did 11 years ago (VBA)?

I am a C guy (well, mainly hardware background...EE student), so anything with VB is completely foreign.
