Just wanted to give a heads-up. I have received 3 Enhance 5150GH Rev. 3 psu's from eWiz with 2 of them being defective.

The first one had a thermistor or fan problem. Fan ran 100% no matter the loading.

The rma replacement for that one would power up but never made the bios screen on 2 different machines.

The 3rd one seems to be working perfectly on the same machines.

I don't know if eWiz is getting these psu's back from rma's and sending them back out thinking they'll work in other setups. They are shipped in bubble wrap so it's very hard to tell what you are getting, although they look brand new. I am pretty annoyed I had to pay shipping back to eWiz on 2 units and now wonder if the 3rd replacement will give me yet another headache.

This is nothing but a heads up for potential buyers, you may want to spend the extra money getting a retail, factory sealed unit........

m :)

Well, I finally received a working unit from rma, amazing, given the fact of how poorly wrapped it was. However, they forgot to send the power cable for it (they are sending one out).

Funny thing is, they actually sent it to Enhance for repair, and it showed. There was a big scratch on the bottom of it and they penned out the first 4 digits of the S/N and wrote some new numbers in??? At least it got a good looking over.....

This experience is the worst I've had for any computer component. Recap:

PSU bought new: $75 (defective fan or thermistor)
RMA#1: $8.00 shipping (received non-workig psu)
RMA#2: $8.00 shipping (received working psu but no power cord)

Total cost: $91 and 2 months of my time for a 500 watt psu.....

I am pretty certain I will never do the eWiz thing again.......

damn man. sorry to hear about that. I just placed an order for one yesterday. Hope it goes a little smoother :(

I got my enhance in today from ewiz. It's kind of weird.

I've been using a third ultra vpower 500w and was actually kind of satisfied with it, but knowing how the first two were, I figured I'd let the ultra sit as a backup / test psu instead of taking full load.

So I took apart everything today to change the psu (friggin radiator and stupid case design. fault on my part). When I first started using it, for the first hour, it sort of "burned in". During it, I was getting high pitched squeals that alternated in pitch. Also had a buzzing sound that also alternated. Fan is very quiet, which was good. Air almost as hot as the ultra came out (I used an antec he550 in my system and it was damned cool always). There was also a burning smell much like the last ultra I had when I ran my c2d at 3.6ghz. The electrical noises were actually quite noisy at times when I had no music on. I made sure it wasn't coming from the motherboard. But after an hour or so (came back from dinner), it became silent?! What the hell.. I had a sick to my stomach feeling when I went to dinner since this was my first psu that was >$40 and the noises, smell, and heat were scaring me. But now it's silent??!?! It's still putting out hotter air than the antec he did. I also have a 120mm exhaust in the rear and that one is cool. But it's no where near as hot as the air coming out of the ultra when I ran 3.6 (I have the back of the pc pointed towards the door to my room and I could feel the heat wave when I walked in if pc was under full gpu and cpu load at 3.6).

Anyone else have this happen?? Should I still be worried?

I used an antec he550 in my system and it was damned cool always...

Probably because the NeoHE fan hardly moves any air.

Are you sure the heat coming out of the PSU is coming FROM the PSU?

The intake fan is situated over your CPU in your case, correect?

Do you have a rear exhaust fan directly under the PSU or is the PSU the only exhaust?

jonnyGURU!! I loved your reviews.

As for the heat issue, I woke up this morning and now I can barely feel any air at all coming out the psu, but it doesn't seem hot anymore?? Yes, I have a yate loon exhausting right below, which blows out colder air than the psu still and a lot more of it. System is watercooled. I opened up the case to check inside and everything seemed to be normal.

Guess I can't complain anymore. No more electical noises. No more heat (it seems) and no burning smell. Guess there really is such a thing as burn in?? Never had that happen with any other psu

Currently, I've got a 120mm intake on the side going to my ram. Also, my 2x120 is intake right now. I've meant to flip them but I forgot. Also have a traditional front 80mm. Also holes for drawing air in in case of negative pressure.

Hmm... Dunno. Seems like you're getting enough cool air in and hot air out.

yeah, no complaints at the moment. I'm waiting for my d9gmh to come back from rma to start ramping up clocks again. What I did notice is that the rails are all slightly lower than spec. The ultra was slightly above in all. Not really any indication of anything, but I'm not about to open up the psu to try to adjust any pots if there are any. As long as it holds load stably, it's all I could ask for

I've had my 600W ENS-0560-G for over a year now, and it's holding up my system just great. Purchased it from eWiz as well. Sorry to hear about your troubles though. I thought Enhance made some quality psu's.

Currently, I just received a 7900GTX from EVGA as an RMA for my 7900GT.
I also plugged in a couple more hard drives because I got a nice new case with room for a lot of hard drives.

so, now, it's running:
Opteron 165 @ 2.5Ghz/core
2GB ddr3200
7900GTX
2 dvd-rws
1 36gb raptor
1 300gb seagate 7200.8
1 320gb seagate 7200.10
1 250gb seagate 7200.9
1 250gb maxtor

how are you guys with enhance 500w's doing on the rails?

I know actual voltages don't mean much since it can have to do with the design of the psu and what the pots are set at. But for comparison, with my ultra 500w at both 3.2ghz and 3.6ghz (c2d) I was seeing around 12.2v on the 12v rail, 3.35v, 5.1v under both conditions.

With the enhance, I was seeing about 11.96v with 3.2ghz and with 3.6ghz, it's down to 11.88v. 3.26 and 4.99 are seen for both cpu speeds. kind of interesting to see. but as long as she's stable, right?
