i dont have a name yet for my project. i am using a case that i bought almost 6 years ago. the case has been sitting in my closet for the last 3+ years. anyway, here are a few pics of the case before i attack it.

The case is pretty big. It has lots of potential and plenty of room to do almost anything i want. I started off by adding a 120mm intake. I picked up a pvc pipe fitting from home depot for the front intake. I had to cut and grind it until it fit inside the hole i made. Since the bezel is curved in the front, it was a little tricky to get that duct to fit just right. Its all sanded down and waiting for paint.

The next pictures are low quality.
I took them with my cell phone, sorry.

Last night i finished cutting out my design on the side panel.
The pattern means absolutely nothing. I didnt want the PSU or Drive cages to show too much. They're ugly :p

Anyway, its almost time for painting the whole case. I still have a bit more cutting to do. More to come...

EDIT:All the work in progress pictures and finished pictures are up, Thanks to some friends that helped me with bandwidth.

Check them all out here.

im really diggin that side panel u cut there. It will outline the neat parts of the rig nicley. i assume this case is steal so did you cut that with a jigsaw... and i also assume you hand filed it with how straight your cuts look... this mod shows promise considering how well u cut that panel and the front intake. and are you going to be watercooling. it would be neat put the rad up top and then run the lines down where the panel is cut out. ne way

mod on my friend.

thanks for all the kind words man! great feedback is awesome motivation for me. you are correct about the case. it is steal and i did all those cuts with a jigsaw. however the cuts you see are still raw, they havent been filed yet. i gotta head over to home depot tonight or tomorrow and pick up some new files and plexi glass for that window. i will be also cutting a window into the panel on the other side.

this case will be watercooled. i originally wanted the radiator on top, but because of the way that top piece is designed it might be hard. if i ever needed to remove it, i would need to completely disconnect the water loop. i am still trying to figure out a way to mount it on top though. my other idea was to mount it on the side of the case going vertical. tonight when i get home from work, im gonna finally decide on a location.

Looking good. Where did you get that case? Ive been looking for a cheap plane full tower and have yet to find one to my likings.

edit: doh.. didnt read, you got it 6 years ago :(

Update:

You guys remember what the top looks like. It is a very unique design with mounts for extra hard drives or a floppy. I didnt want to cut the top part apart but I needed to find a way to mount the radiator. I wanted a solid base for the Rad to sit on. A friend of mine fabricated a base for me out of stainless steel. It fit perfect! Everything is starting to come together nicely now. Since my last update, I also cut a simple matching pattern in the other side panel. I didnt cut too much because nobody wants to look at the back of the motherboard tray. You will be able to see straight through the case from the top cuts, they line up exactly.

Anyway, enough typing, here are the pics.

(sorry again about quality, they are cell phone pics)

All panels, ready for paint.

The base my friend made for the radiator.

Another view of side/back and top.

Note the way I am mounting the radiator. I didnt want
any air from the case going through the rad. The base
is meant to completely seperate the rad "compartment"
from the rest of the tower. Air will rush through the small
vent holes you see on the sides of the top panel. This
gives me all the benefits of an exterior mounted rad.

Closer view of top panel in place, without the rad.

Everything fits perfectly!

I have started to paint. I painted the inside of the case white. The outside of the case isnt done yet, I ran out of paint. The paint does not have the clear coat on it yet, and the front bezel has not been painted yet. Once I get the clear coat on, I am gonna wax it for a sexy mirror finish.

Matching nail polish. :D LOL

Very cool, for cell phone pics they are really good. Good work, looks awesome.

Looks awsome. Is that the paint you can buy at the autoparts store by Duplicolor?

Thanks! That last set of pictures were from a regular camera and put onto a CD. I wanted the paint to look as nice as possible.

My wife was very proud of her nails that day so I let her be my model :D

Thanks man, you are correct! Mirage paint by Duplicolor

how many cans of that paint did you have to use? The cans look pretty small to me and the autozone by my house is selling the 3 can kit with the base, mid and top coat for like $20. I've got a case about that size that I have to paint for my sister and I was wondering about how much I should plan on having to buy.

Thankies. :)

those three pieces that i painted so far used up one of those $20 kits. i put down 5 coats before i ran out of paint. those cans are small and they ran out fast. i just bought a second kit so i can add a few more coats and do the front bezel.

I wanted to do the inside of my case with the Mirage paint but you cant get it ANYWHERE in the uk, which is abit of a pisser really. I cant even find any on ebay :(

Hmmm, I i guess I might not use the mirage paint then. I have a budget of about $40-50 for this project since it's a x-mas present and I have around 20 people to shop for this year. Oh, well. Nice job on the finger nails, they look nice. ;)

Quick update. Painting is finally done. I am starting to assemble everything now. I didnt like the water res I bought from dangerden.com so I popped open the yellow pages and found a place that sells plastics near my house. I had them make me a custom water res from scratch. I freakin love it! It is exactly what I have wanted from the start but couldnt find anywhere. Anyway, the res is 15 inches long, with 1/2 barbs, and a nice fill cap on top. It will mount to the side of my case. I went to home depot and bought a fire extinguisher mount to hold the water res. I used rivets to mount it and I put dynamat in between the case and the mount. Here are some quick cell phone pics so you can see what they made for me :)

The plastic is still on it. I havent taken it off yet because my clumsy ass would probably scratch it.

very cool work dude, nice to see somone modding an old school inwin q500 :D

thanks man! wow, i have been wondering what this case was! I have had this thing forever!! its been in my closet just begging to be modded.

here is another angle showing my sexy water res. this camera phone is doing a horrible job showing the paint job. the next pics I post will be high quality pics of the finished case.

res5.jpg

you might want to have a second fire extinguisher holder upside down on the top so your res is a little bit less likely to jump out in the event of a hard bump, or fuck up your paint job. It looks very very good so far.

Sweet paint job. I like how you cut the panels too. I was a bit shocked by the size of the radiator you are using, but once I saw the res, it made sense. Man, you are going to be moving a lot of water through there.
Looks great!

i think you might be right. i am hoping that the hose on top will help support it well enough. if not, ill put another mount on top. im gonna go to home depot and buy some weather stripping so i can put it between the res and mount. i dont want the metal strap on that mount putting weird pressure possible cracking it. the weather stipping should give the whole thing a very nice snug fit. thanks for the tip man.

Well, I just got yelled at by my fiancee. Not only do you have the exact same case I am modding, you are using stainless for the radiator mount too. :( Got my case given to me, as well as the stainless; I just had to cart away the junk ice cream machine it was attached to in the process. You using the B'ville core too? I am going to do mine a little differently, but I really like your work. It looks good and the window cuts are ultra straight. Now to go apologize for blasting profanity across the house......

I will definitely be watching this mod, as your work is excellent. :)

Very nice job. Love the cuts. Love to see a fellow jigsaw arteeeest! LOL! Keep it up. Will be watching this mod closely.

thanks for the kinds words everyone :)

Wow, what are the chances! I would love to see some pics of your progress. Yeah its a bonn core. Ill have some more pics shortly. Good luck with yours man!

lol, that has been my sig since i joined [H]. i pretty much forgot all i know about dos though. its been so long. when i was in high school, dos was all i used.

Same here. I had a batch file program for all my dos games. Since I only had a 520mb and a 420mb hard drive I was hard pressed for space and I had sooo many games that I enjoyed playing...so what I did was zip them all up and wrote a batch file menu program that had a list of all my games and all I had to do was hit the key to the corrosponding game I wanted to play, it would extract it, run the setup, then go into the game, I would play and then when I exited it would ask me if I wanted to keep the installation or delete it. Then after that it would go back to the menu. It was pretty sweet!

oh man, you are bringing back horrible memories of small hard drives. /shiver. lol

We got the 40 MB internal upgrade for our Tandy... I was the envy of all my friends.... :D Actually, I had no interest in anything but cars and girls back then. I had to start late! And no progress yet. I can't yet afford the system to go into the box, so I have put the four mods that are lined up on hold until I can secure better funding (new job) or my Fiancee goes to work after completing her degree..... Oh dear lord I cannot wait...... :( I was going to get the Swiftech MCP-650 pump, and I have not decided on waterbocks. I think the PolarFlo chrome blocks are dead sexy, though. I am going to mount the radiator so that it draws all the air out through the rad as a separate chamber. Really want a dual proc setup to push the cooling though.... ;) No sense in water if you can't try to boil it!

You know what's funny Ewarz....I still have those hard drives along with a seagate 100mb and they still work LOL!! I still have that batch file floating around somewhere too.

N i c e window on the side....professional jigsawing.

what blade did you use?
looking good.

I like your case alot! I'm gonna keep an eye on this thread for your updates! :D

OMG DUDE!!!!
MY DAD USES THAT CASE! HAS FOR YEARS! He just ordered a new case though, something to do with that one has really bad airflow and the floppy is way up at the top. Its just like, woah, dejavous! Good luck on the mod!

My first mod was on an Addtronics case internally identical to yours... Bringing back memories...

Looking forward to seeing the finnished project...

Oh, and the colour of paint I used is almost identical hahaha... talk about coincidences...
