Evolution is probably the best all around email client for Linux Ubuntu.
I have to have Exchange server and this is the only one that "works" as far as I can find.
I upgraded to version Ubuntu 10.10 and found a newer version of Evolution came with it.
So poking around at the settings I found a PLUGIN tab. I browsed the built in plugins and found the majority of them I didn't need. There were 2 different spam filter built in. The email host already has spam filter. NIX for them. Also several plugins for filtering on subject, and a bunch of other crap I didn't need. Turned most all of them off and restarted Evolution. The difference was night and day. It was sluggish on startup at best, now it is snappy. It would sometimes CHOKE on attachments, now it has no problems.

If you use Evolution and find it rather sluggish, try turning off the plugins you find worthless.

Have you gotten thunderbird to work with Exchanges OWA? I'd like to use thunderbird since it's leaner than evoluation but haven't been able to understand how to use thunderbird against an OWA.

Thanks for the tip- made a big difference on my netbook which needs all the help it can get anyway!

Evolution always jacked up at around 20,000 messages for me. For POP use it keeps all of the messages in a single mbox file.

I had to switch to Sylpheed to make it usable.
