That's not very practical or even possible altogether if you've got an entire farm to run.

Ach, at the time, I just had two clients to feed. and I was bored. That can do stuff.

EDIT: and it's just for a stopgap, for... 2 days? tops?

Well, this thread is about EvilAlchemist's setup, so regardless of whether or not it worked for you, it's still not a possible course of action for him.

Just for reference, I upload between 20 and 30 workunits every day across two SMP clients and two GPU clients. Copying all of those over to a portable device and bringing them to a public place with internet access would be effectively impossible to do, since I'd end up spending all day running back and forth. Even with just a handful of SMP clients, it wouldn't be practical at all.
 
As a stopgap? That was the original response to his slight problem.

EDIT: come to think about it, the 8500GT took a whole day to complete one WU, so it made sense for me.

Zero82z is right. It's too much work for too little.
 
See if I can sum up the last few days ....

On Thursday
Charter Sales Rep came to the house and talked to me about with Residential Services I wanted,
Telephone & Video to go with my Business Internet.
The sales rep said he would be out at noon on Friday to run the underground cable since and asked if I would help, being a two person job. He stated the installers would be there on Saturday morning to get everything setup.

On Friday,
The sales rep showed up at noon and we ran the cable within an hour.
Then his phone rang and he said the installer would be there today, within 30 minutes no less !!!!

So the installer gets there, and they go to town connecting all the new lines.
To my shock, another Charter truck shows up to help with the overhead testing.

So my install was a day early and extremely fast.

When I left for work they were working on my grandparents house next door and then my uncle's down the road.

So, I finally have internet at the house ... if only I can get my untangle DHCP to work ... Hummm?
 
So Now I have many F@H clients to setup and get running.

After, I get Untangle to do what i want.
Should not be too difficult if I can sit down and figure it out some ...
 
Nice setup. I'm about 5 days away from overtaking you.

However, I'll be the one rapidly fading away in your rear view mirror once you get that farm back online. :D

I have been really impressed with SuperMicro build quality and performance with my last 4 builds but either would be a good motherboard to use.

Both are about the same price so it is up to you on which you wish to use.

Also remember that the xeons don't come with heatsinks.

Let us know how the build goes.

Once I figured out what I needed to do Linux install was quite simple if you want to go that way.
