I see a bunch of sticky's for the ASUS P6T, i have the EVGA X58 sli tr version mobo on its way to me, will be here tomorrow...actually i haev everything in my sig coming here tomorrow...I was jsut wondering what the "dummy-oc" will give me for an overclock? I just want a overclock of 3.6ish, and was wondering if anyone that has that motherboard with that overclock, could give me a template of thier BIOS for me to use on my rig when it comes in...

Thanks again in advance.

...and if anyone could tell me some settings I might have to change right away....like on first boot up....that may cause me problems if I dont.

Thanks

Dummy oc is 3.2ghz.

Poke around on the EVGA forums, someone posted their settings for 4.2ghz.

Ya i saw and read that..thanks...but I really dont want to go that hi...i'm a noob when it comes to overclocking....that's why I was looking for a template....maybe Ill jsut dummy oc for now.

here is a guide to hitting 4ghz, i think 4.2ghz with turbo enabled. why would you not want to go to 4ghz if you could? it doesnt matter if you are a noob. just put on a 3rd party hs/f and change some bios settings.

Honestly, your right....i have no reason to not hit 4ghz or more...I have the Cooler Master V8 coming as you can see in my sig...I guess My nerves are just getting to me about messing up anything and frying my new rig...

Thanks for your post and the link.

Meh, after you burn up a few motherboards, you stop worrying about it. Just wish mine would hurry up and get back from RMA. I'm not digging this P6T nearly as much as my evga. Also doesnt help that i'm entirely too lazy to learn the new bios.

This might sound like a dumb question....but the very first thing to do according to this link..

http://www.evga.com/forums/tm.asp?m=642527

...is to "load defaults," save and exit....but in the pic of the BIOS, it has two options:

1. Load Fail-Safe Defaults
2. Load Optimized Defaults

..which "load defaults" did the OP mean?

Failsafe defaults. Basically its just to make sure you are starting with a clean slate.

Also, my board is on the way back, yay.

Awesome...good for you man....what happened to your board? DOA or did you do something to it?

Not exactly sure. I got up, turned it on, and my PSU had a big evil red light telling me something was shorted. It killed my cpu too :(

you can probably hit 3.8 with the CM V8. that would give you the right numbers for your ram then too. there is not specific template as each cpu seems to be a little different. the guides on the evga forum are a good start and like they say you just tweak from there. if you run into trouble just post your template on the evga forum and ask for help and someone will try to assist.

thanks all for your replies. I have my new sig up and running below, and its perfect. Since its so stable bone-stock...im just leaving it be for now so I can enjoy it a bit before diving into the BIOS and overlocking it.

I just wanted to say thanks to all of you for your input, and when I do overclock, i will use all the guides and templates that you recommended.

I will post pics of my rig asap.

Thanks again,

At least try the dummy overclock. You'd be amazed how much difference that 600mhz makes. I got my evga put back together last night, so i'll see how high this new chip goes. I dont think its as good as my old chip though :( Hopefully i'll be able to trade it in for a d0 this week at microcenter.

A few pics to show off the new koolance blocks.

I have heard good and bad things about this board. But good out-weights the bad so this will be the board that i will go with on my next build.

The only issue this board has is that it wont do hibernation. But considering i turn my computer off anytime i'm not using it, its not an issue for me.

the latest bios fixes the issue of hibernation and sleep for stock (it is still not stable for oc)

I had the X58 "plain" before I got the Classified board.

Here's what I did.

Connect your board to include PSU, RAM,CPU/HSF and a GPU.
Clear the CMOS or remove battery for a minute or so.
Start up and go into BIOS, all you need do at this juncture is adjust the VDimm to match your memory voltage specifications.
F10 will save and exit, that's all you need do. Removing the battery will have reset the BIOS to default.
Post up and continue to load software............OS>chipset>GPU drivers>audio drivers>miscellaneous utilities.

I was able to take my board to 180 BCLCK with just a modest adjustment of the VCore to 1.35V, if you have turbo enabled that is 180 x 21 = 3.78 GHz.
