EVGA has made their very own YouTube video today. This video is made by EVGA and is essentially just a product demonstration of the EVGA UV Plus+. With that said, the device looks pretty cool (I like the stackability), well have to get one and test it here.

I have been using one of these at my office for some time and have not had any problems for what tasks I run on that screen. I usually just run Outlook, Firefox, Excel, Word, pretty basic applications but I have two other monitors for more intensive programs.

XFX made this video for EVGA? strange. Anyway, I remember when people told me usb didn't have enough raw power to drive a display, Kewl device!

This is a very impressive device, I just wish it was a hair cheaper. No DVI for my eeePc. :(

No lame music or silly visual effects.
I liked the video. Straight to the point, simple, quick, and good basic information.
Definitely a useful looking little gadget.
Once I get some more desk real estate I may look into purchasing one.

nice but really needs to support 1080p. if they could do that this would kick ass. still as it is I can see it being used a lot for business applications.

Awesome I might get one of these, I had forgotten about it when I first read about it.

EVGA if you are reading here is what you can do to make even more money.
This sized product, Velcro, Do what you are doing in reverse Plus cables!

If you could have a product this size accept video and send it to the PC inside a window and or full screen that would be an awesome tool! I don't need it to be able to send enough data for say First Person Shooters but I could use it to diag some headless units.

I'm using a UV12 at home, based off a Asus P5E-VM HDMI mobo. I wouldn't advise using the eVGA device for video, but for most web/office applications it rocks. There's no better solution out there right now for us multiple display addicts on a budget. It's actually a third monitor for me as I have 2 19's on my desk and a 26" LCD on the wall driven by the HDMI. Where I see the real potential for this device is in the corporate workplace. It's a very cheap way to add a monitor to an older system without opening the case. I'd have already done it myself at my office if not for the IT nazi's and their fear of anything and everything cutting edge (and jealous cube-mates).

USB? could they not make one with say a MINIPCI slot or what ever replace PCMICIAIAMM what ever slots to get it some real bandwidth as i am sure once you start stacking a few, wouldn't the USB get rather saturated, also how would other USB devices work out say you have a USB hard drive and that installed?

How does USB support an uncompressed 60hz 2MP video feed? Wouldn't there be bandwidth issues?

I am using one of these devices right now at work. ;)

I can say it works fine going through a usb hub also.

Fry's had them on sale not too long ago. I think I picked it up for $50.

I think some of you guys are missing the point of this device.

It really isn't meant to be as fast as a regular slot graphics card, it's meant for it's simplicity, convienance for people who need an extra monitor setup. You can't game on these, and they really are not very good at processing video.

The price is a good point for business/organizations. My work uses a similar but different brand and they work for their intended factor.

so, no go for gaming? that sucks. but as long as you just want the extra desktop space, it sounds like a better alternative than the matrox tripplehead2go thing

How do these devices play with SLI? Can they be used for side extra monitors?

we used a similar set up (USB things) for our ten monitor HQ rig (Army LAN mangr here, BN level). We were not trying to game obviously, but it worked great, much less problematic than our old ATI multi monitor cards (2 cards for 6 screens 4+2), and they can be had for cheaper too. I wouldnt mind picking up a few on sale someday even tho I dont have room for more monitors with my current set up, but Id love to rebuild that 6 screen, I could do anything I wanted all at the same time, and we werent even on the net lol!

Since i cant edit...

It was definitely funny seeing Jacob on a youtube video. :)
I definitely like UV+ and i have tested it out and i definitely enjoyed using it as an expansion monitor and it works great for people who either dont want to spend the money on a docking station, or just dont have the ability to get a graphics card but still want multiple monitors.

Am I missing something? Does a usb hub not provide the same voltage as a mobo port? Mind you I am an electrical engineer, but if there is something I don't understand, please explain. Now that I think about it, I wouldn't think running this from an unpowered hubwould be a good idea. But I wouldn't hesitate to put it on a powered hub. I'm fixing to try it actually...yep, it worked just fine. Again, I wouldn't recommend video but office applications are great.

Not too well, you need direct power from the motherboard. I cant remember the exact voltage necessary to power this device correctly.

As long as it is a powered usb hub that shouldn't matter. I would think the issue would be more of a bandwidth one if you had other devices on it.

Minor quibbles:

They claim in the video to have "Mac Oh Ess Ecks" (Dammit, it's "Mac Oh Ess Ten") support, but none is to be found on their websites.

Not sure why "stackable" is such a big thing to Steve; they're just physically stackable, you still need separate USB cables. (I was thinking at first that they effectively had a single-port USB hub in them to pass the signal through a proprietary 'stacking' connector, but that's not the case.)

Yeah, its more about the fact that it needs to be well powered... i think the reason why they dont suggest running them on hubs is because not all hubs are made the same... and theres probably a chance someone will try to run it on an unpowered hub.

I just bought one, to use with my laptop. I bought the cheaper one, which is limited to 1440x900. I am running it through a powered hub. There seems to be a little bit of difference between running through the hub and going directly to a usb port on the laptop. It's just a little smoother running direct. It'll use all the bandwidth it can get.

For the person looking to use it with an eee pc, it comes with a DVI to vga adapter. I tried both, (dvi and vga) and couldn't really tell a difference between the two. I'm only running a 19" at 1440x900 though.

The only thing I've heard is that the more of these you try to run, the lower the performance gets.

The other thing I was pleasantly surprised by was the small size. I though it was going to bit a bit bigger.

Overall, there's still room for improvement, but this device is still a godsend for me, and works pretty well for the price. If they make it a little bit smoother, I'll have no complaints.

EDIT:

VGA is working better for me than DVI. If I rapidly scrub a window around, every few seconds the DVI connection goes blank, while it "catches up". This doesn't happen with the VGA connection. It's also definitely smoother going directly through a USB port than a hub.

Too bad my laptop only has 2 usb ports...

Thanks for the info bro, that is good to know.

Er, what is this device for? Don't laptops have an output for monitors and don't graphic cards have two video outputs?

Not all. Imagine your mobo only supports one PCI-E card and you dont want to buy more videocard or a new mobo. For about 50 dollars you can get another monitor via USB. So this could also be used for MORE than one laptop and no, not all laptops have VGA or DVI out. If they do, most of them have VGA. THis supports upto 1600x1200 on DVI. So that way you can have 3 monitors coming from a laptop. :D

Laptops generally have one output for monitors. I bought a laptop, because, once in a while, I need the portability. However, when I don't, it's nice to have a lot of screen space.

I see this device for "office use". A quick easy, cheap way to add another monitor for viewing simple things such as documents/interrnet/email.

If you are looking for heavy graphics processing, you need to buy and install another graphics card. This solution won't help solve that. This device isn't going to become the new standard for video cards.

However...
I do a lot of graphic design and 3d modeling, and there are a lot of windows I need to have available. Having that 3rd screen helps with efficiency. (Laptop --> Monitor Output + UVPlus Screen)

Also, as for mac support, go to www.displaylink.com. Go to the drivers page, and there is a beta mac driver.

I am running a macbook pro, and am very happy with the additional screen, and the possibility for quick, easy and reasonably priced expansion.
