EVGA RMA service question

I am thinking of RMA'ing my GTX 260 216 vanilla I got in January 2009. I believe it is failing because it is more audible than before, my rear and top case fans before drowned out the noise. Not only that, it makes a high pitched noise, I think is coming from the back, which is annoying becasue it resonates inside my case. I know that EVGA uses refurbs as replacements. Has anyone recieved a replacement that had more problems than the original? I don't want to keep doing a RMA on replacement if they had more problems.

Thanks

sometimes you get lucky and actually get a brand new card from EVGA.. it really just depends on if they still make the card you are RMA'ing.. but either way their RMA service is pretty damn good and it would be rare if you got a bad card in return..

my gtx285 i got back was a refurb but it clocked so much better than my orignal. very happy overall.

The one I got back from them was a better card than the one I originally bought. Rock solid. They even sent it in a whole new box so it might have even been a brand new part.

Sorry to hijack, but has anyone RMA'ed a 9800GX2 recently? If so, did you get a 9800GX2 back or something else, like a GTX280?

A 275 would be the replacer today i think as is is a nutered 280 and 280 are done and 285 a bit faster/to fast and has twice the usable memory of GX2.

If they are out of refurb stock on 9800 GX2's(which they probably are) they will most likely send you a 275/280/285 would be my guess. Any of those 3 I would be happy with imo coming from yours now. Hell maybe you can sweettalk em into sending you 2 gtx 260 vanillas. That would be awesome for you lol. :p

Just give them your CC number along with the sweettalk and they hook you up with just about anything they have, mabey even the unreleased dual 285 2giggers/ASUS dual 285 MARS competitior that is rumored about or that is just that, a rumor.

So I got my replacement 260 216 in today. Works fine, but still has the same issue that my first one has strangely. I installed the latest drivers, and using GPU Z showing the card running at 1344RPM idle, it is the loudest thing in my case. To be specific, it is the noise being whooshed through the back. I swear when I first built my pc in Jan 09, my 260 was silent at idle. Even with my case closed, you can hear the 260 easily. I havent changed anything else in my PC, and the only updates I've done is a BIOS one for my mobo.

Not strange at all. Just says that it's not the card. What % fan speed does it say? 1400ish RPM It should be 40%, which is what mine is at and I can not hear it over my other low db fans. I feel only a slight amount of air coming from the back of mine. Definitely not enough to make a noise.

I have a EVGA GTX260 216 616mhz edition.

GPU-Z shows right now 1377RPM. Thats how mine used to be, I could barely hear it, and my case fans drowned it out, now it is the opposite.

Unplug your case fans while the system is running to make sure that's what you're hearing.

It is definately the card. The case fans add very little noise overall, same with the 9500AT.

I dunno what else could be causing this.
