EVGA life time. Thoughts?

So Newegg finally got in the 1gb evga 460's in a few different flavors. I noticed all the different model numbers and different warranties for each model.

I was kind of mad that I have to pay $10.00 more for the life time warranty , which I obviously did, but then I got to thinking. At this rate how long do you think they will even offer the life time warranty. Do you think they are the same exact cards with a different sku or do they have better build quality for $10.00.

To me it seems they either aren't identical or they are phasing out Life time warranties entirely.

No, for whatever reason eVGA does this it seems for all of their cards. One of the 480s I ordered was one a non-lifetime part, which wasn't what I ordered but I ordered at launch and I guess they shipped to me what the had one hand at mWave. Won't probably be on these cards for long, I'm never on a card more then two years and there's no transferable warranty like XFX, that kind of sucks. At any rate not sure how they rate the cards but they must have some way to bin the cards to control RMA costs. Or maybe they just do it randomly just to control the number of lifetime cards, I have no idea.

What company said a lifetime warranty was 5 years, BFG? There was one company that would not honor the warranty, it was in the fine print about the lifetime of the card. There was nothing that could be done about it.

IMO the $10 warranty is worth it since not everyone sells their card one year from purchase date, etc. It all depends if you buy/sell really.

I wonder why they even offer the warranty for $10.00 more. Why wouldn't it just always be lifetime. Granted if my choice was between 1-2 year warranties and lifetime I'd take the lifetime every time.

I'm still curious if it's low quality parts that are offered without the lifetime warranty.

They do it for more money is what I think..

Sure you can! You just register each product individually, pass the login info to the new owner, then they can change the address/info.

Why? You have the option either way. Just ignore the non-lifetime warranty ones. EVGA has always charged a premium for their lifetime warranty. It's just now they give you the option of not having it to save a few bucks.

Nope, same card. You're just paying a premium for the warranty...same as you always have.

edit: Oh yeah, and only the lifetime warranty cards are eligible for Step-Up. Another perk included in the $10 premium.

EVGA has hands down the best warranty for video cards. BFG was really good as well until recently after they decided to exit the video card business and screw people who needed warranty service (several complaint threads about this). XFX is the second best in my mind , they have a double life time warranty which is great if you plan to resell the card at a later date , however they don't offer a Step up program.

Asus in my mind atleast is also fantastic with warranty issues , sadly after the top 3 the quality of warranty service takes a serious nose dive. HiS is extremely poor , Zotac isn't horrible but not quality , Gigabyte isn't that bad , PNY sucks and theres plenty of reason to avoid them , Galaxy was founded by former BFG employee's and looks like it'll have some promise so right now its a unknown and finally Diamond is without a single doubt the worst warranty honoring company in the video card business , don't expect any help from them at all.
