eVGA GTX280 noise issue

I've been having some issues with my eVGA GTX280 lately... it's been making a lot of noise.
The link has 7 second clip of what the noise sounds like at 50% fan speed.

Anyone have any idea why this is happening and how I would solve it?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

Also... because of this noise I wanted to replace the GPU cooler with the Accelero but 2 screws would not come out and the screw divots became fubar'd . Any suggestions on how to get the screws out?

If you speed up the fan or slow it down, does the speed of the sound increase or decrease?

the faster the fan goes the noisier it gets... a lot noisier. temps on eVGA precision is 69 idle at 40% auto fan speed

Just take that shit out and look at it, if there is nothing hitting the fan and no dirt grit then it "could" be the fan is loose or dying. IMO I'd say somehow it is loose

there's nothing hitting the fan... maybe it needs oil? i have no idea how it could be loose and if it is... how would i tighten it? The noise is obnoxious and I would love to get rid of it somehow.

i have an accelero gtx 280 but i can't get 2 of the screws out (one on the bottom corner and one on the faceplate). The screw divots or whatever you call it are nonexistent from my weak screwdrivers. So they're basically stuck unless anyone has any ideas on how to remove the screws.

Did you grind up the divots with a screwdriver head that was too big for the task? Don't know what you could do about it really, other then risk snapping it off.

You could take a dremel and cut a straight line in the bolt and use a flat head to get it off. It's what I did when my bolts get stuck (on the xbox 360).

Is this your way of saying "I didn't have the proper tool and I stripped the screw heads"? You're going to have to drill the heads off the screws (using progressively bigger drill bits), use unrealsword method, or a screw extractor.

I used a relatively small screwdriver which fit the head of the screw but the screw was stuck on pretty tightly leading to the destruction of the head. I will definitely try unrealsword's method as it does sound promising. Could anyone point me to a dremel bit that would do the job?

Fyi, if you remove the cooler and cannot put it back on due to a bad screw... you probably wont be warrantied. The warranty requires that the card be in the exact same form as when you received it.

would they happen to sell replacement screws anywhere? i doubt home depot or lowe's would carry these screws cause they're extremely small/short.

From my experience, i have not successfully been able to help anyone find replacement screws for these coolers. They're extremely specialized.

ahhh that sucks... so I guess I'm stuck with using a dremel. Could anyone point me to a dremel bit that would be sufficient for the job? I've never used a dremel but my dad has one and I'm assuming all the bits are universal fits?

fyi... the "fan noise" was due to a SATA cable on the fan. mATX mobos are so cramped :(
issue is resolved!
