I have yet to truly be happy with any cooler on the 980 and 980ti cards other than MSI but I also can't stand the red on the MSI so I went with EVGA's dual fan option which of course makes a weird sound at 35% fan speed. I found a whole group of ppl noticing the same thing. Most may not notice this if your PC isn't near dead silent which mine is. So what options do I have? The MK-26? Artic Cooling's solution? or just find a way to install my own fans on the factory heatsink? Right now the MK-26 is looking tempting if I can manage to get the video card to keep control of the fans. Thx for any advice.

You can take off the shroud and hang your own fans. There is even a little an adapter made by Gelid to connect PWM fans directly to the connector on the actual video card so that you can use a fan curve and what not.

You could go the AIO route and use a G10 bracket, but you should have gotten the MSI card for that because it actually has a heatsink for the VRMs.

Btw, you could have gotten this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127902&leaderboard=1

The MSI card you listed does not have zero fan mode apparently. I had looked at that one already. The fans look different than the other MSI cards. The Evga has some sort of plate over the VRM's.. If I added a different cooler with more airflow it would only increase it's performance.

The more I game the more I realize this car isn't that bad for noise. Runs about 50% fan when I game and gets up to 79C peak temps. For some reason at 35% it resonates. I assume a flaw with the design since I know of others with the same exact issue. Would be nice to see a vid card company make both fans run at different RPM's as I think both fans running at the same exact speed is probably some of the issue. Seen this with case fans and cpu heatsinks also.

It's too bad you don't like the red color of MSI, as they seem to have the independent fan control that you want. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TbtTJSuwYsg

I just built a fan curve that skips the 35% area that causes noise. All good now. Like the look of the EVGA card much mmore than the msi.
