EVGA 970 SSC

So i just recently bought an EVGA GTX 970 from Best Buy, it is branded as the SSC version of the card yet it does not have the bios switch and from what I have read it is using an outdated heatsink/fan shroud.

My question is, would I be able to return it to Best Buy for a full refund, the card is less than a week old. Or, am I just crazy and the card is relatively fine.

I tried to apply an over clock but could not get it past +150 MHz using MSI Afterburner. While trying to achieve the OC i manipulated the voltage and power limit but still nothing stable enough to play Arma 3 with.

BB should let you return it and if it has the old heatsink, then you definitely should. Btw ARMA 3 is heavily CPU dependent and only uses a single thread, the GPU OC won't yield you anything with that game.

Does it advertise having the bios switch? I would return it. Also, those SSC cards are already pretty well overclocked and don't have a huge amount of headroom to begin with.

Thanks for the quick reply!

But is it really worth it, I mean, the difference between the "SSC" model i have and the actual SSC? My budget doesnt really allow me to go anywhere above the EVGA 970 which was about $360 or so in total so if this model is fine then it might not be worth the effort.

Krenum,

The packaging does not advertise the bios switch but i have seen since purchasing that the model BB sells is just a rebrand of a different 970.

Hmm,

Well, I'd say return it and buy one of the B-Stock GTX 970 SC's from EVGA.com.

They come with a year warranty and you can get them for around $260 bucks. That will save you a bit of money. :)

or this Zotac for 249!

Zotac offers lifetime warranties on their products I believe.

edit:
But it looks EVGA.com B Stock are out of them right now.

Also, if you were willing to wait and wheel and deal, you could probably get a 980 for $360 bucks on Ebay or someone here on the forum & they do sell those B Stock 980's on EVGA for $359 from time to time, but you have to be quick! :)

Damn dude, thanks so much for that info, I have never used Zotac, without me being able to do too much research atm is that card a decent card? I will be able to look more into it tomorrow so if you dont know off the top of your head then dont worry.

From what I have researched before I bought my 980 , they are really solid cards.

Anyway , youtube has all sorts of benchmark videos on them.
