So i had to RMA my SLI setup which consisted of 7900 GTX superclocks due to some bad snow which appeared on the screen. Had to wait about a week to get the replacement all the way to germany opened the box and found 1 7950. Now i know these cards a by far more reliable than what it replaced but it doesnt seem right to spend roughly 1000 dollars on an SLI setup than having to RMA them only to get a dual card which only cost roughly 500 dollars. I dont know maybe im looking at this all wrong and should be happy. What do you think?

It is like bringing your Mercedes S to the Garage and getting a SLK in return.
I would not accept it, unless I get a refund.

I agree; that isn't an acceptable replacement, as they aren't equivalents. I'm quite surprised that they did that actually....I can't believe it could be anything more than a mixup. Either way, give em a call and I'm sure they'll set it right. Perhaps they'll just send you another GX2 :D

I agree, you should bitch and moan until they send you another 7950. Then you can be really happy:D

does the 7950GX2 not spank the 7900GTX SLI setup, at least at high detail and resolution, or is within 5fps give or take in lower resolutions?

i think it does, at least by a little, and it is more reliable and newer, sounds like a win win to me

as far as the money goes, you have to consider that you would likely have a hard time getting even $600 for the two used 7900GTX's, it doesnt matter what you paid for them, with PC parts that never matters, they depreciate faster than auto's as far as that goes

consider this(mobo compatability aside)....if you sent in a Intel Pressler 965 EE or whatever that you spent $1100 on and they sent a Conroe E6600 that costs $400 +/- but spanks the Pressler 965, would you be inclined to moan about getting something newer and faster just because it costs less to replace?

i think not

i think not

I would find that hard to believe considering the cores on the GX2 are clocked just above the 7900GT cores.

It doesn't. More importantly, unless the upgrade was significant, I'd have hoped that they would call you before making a switch. I still think it must be a mistake, but I'd give em a call and find out whats up.

Ouch, I would not be happy. The 7950gx2 is awesome card but it is not equivalent to 2x 7900GTXs.

look up the benchmarks

oh wow, 3-10 fps at most or 300 marks in synthetic benchmarks, wow, big difference

not to mention they did the OP a favor and gave him a newer more dependable card that basically performs equally to the two individual cards, with a slight overclock could beat the individual GTX's easily, and now he has an open slot and can grab a second GX2 and have quad SLI if he wanted, that option didn't exist before, and like i said, he would have been hard pressed to even get $600 in selling the two GTX's used, all in all, i say it's a fair swap with advantages, when 3-10 fps or 300 marks in synthetic benchmarks cause someone to get their panties in a bunch, they need to re-evaluate things

The point is this: he RMA'd two GTXs. If they want to give him some new card, it had better be either the same cards, or ones that are at least as good.

Perhaps this review showing [H]-like IQ differences will show you the difference. The 7950 is around as fast, sometimes faster, sometimes slower than a pair of 7900GTs. If you paid for two 7900GTXs, then send him two damn 7900GTXs. Otherwise send him a card that is the same speed or faster, not slower.

well, i guess they figured if they didn't have GTX's in stock, and they had GX2's, and a GX2 was pretty close in performance to two GTX's, it was a legit swap and also gave him the ability to add another GX2, an option that didnt exist prior to this

i really think it is a decent trade off, like i said, who cares about 3-10 FPS when the FPS are already sky high, and at very high resolutions and detail settings, the GX2 is actually better

Why should there be a trade off at all? I don't mean to be an ass, but if you just paid $XXX for two GTXs to get those sky high framerates, you had better get the same dame framerates with the same damn cards you ordered.

maybe you realize that under such conditions where it even is different, 3-10 fps will never be noticed or affect gameplay, it's not like at 30fps average where 3-10 fps would make a difference, it's the difference between 133fps and 138fps.......who cares

and i still think you guys have to let go of "what he paid for the GTX's", because they aren't worth anywhere near as much as what he paid for them, that's a fact, i would definately not give more than $600 tops for a pair of used GTX's, especially with the lack of dependability of the GT/GTX's

i do see your point and understand the "i should get what i paid for" stance, but in this case, i honestly think it's a big to-do about nothing that matters all things considered

Personally I would keep the 7950GX2.....however the difference in price would bother me. I would ask them for another GX2 and offer to pay the difference if there is any.

First off, the 7 series issues have been resolved. Second, the issue isn't the 3-10 FPS difference, it's that he sends them in broken, expecting to get them replaced with two functioning. Now he gets one slower. It just doesn't add up.

I agree with the above that maybe he'd prefer the GX2 to go quad-sli, but thats an upgrade that will cost a significant amount more money, and something that he doesn't necessarily want/need.

According to Evga, they are replacing any nonfunctional 7900GTX Superclocked with 7950GX2. Therefore you should have received TWO 7950GX2.

Also a 7900GTX SLI setup is better than a single GX2. Phone up Evga, let them know what happened and I'm sure they'll replace your second card.

i may be able to help assist getting this resolved for you if this is a matter of two EVGA Superclocked GTX's that you RMA'd to EVGA and if the above statement is actually accurate, i can find out as i am a moderator at EVGA's forums and have direct access to their staff

well, thanks, i am fully willing to assist any way i can to make sure he gets satisfied if this is an EVGA thing

I'm thinking if I bought 2 GTX's, I want the maximum frame rates possible, so even if its 10fps over the GX2, I want them and I paid for them.
