EVGA 680i Variants

yeah definitely it is an A1 just wondering if it really worth the extra $70, well my fry's here in OC still has the AR rev. when i check before i picked this A1 up...I still have to decide what memory to use ballistix 1066 or ballistix 1000, i have the DDR 500 tracer it looks nice and has been great no problems whatsoever, how abou tthe dominator 1066?

Apparently EVGA released a new revision... it came back to AR (but now reads D00 vs C00). The new revision has 24 mosfets vs 16 , which solved some stabilization issues and no longer squeals.

This is what Im getting

I need to check and see what version mine is. I don't know if it is a D00 or C00.

I think it's worth the money, but then again I'm less frugal than most people are on here. As far as the memory goes, I have never used the Crucial Ballistix so I can't comment on it. The entire Dominator line on the other hand is fantastic. Also as an alternative you should look at OCZ's Reaper and Flex XLC modules if you are interested in the Dominators. Same perofrmance and even IC's in many cases and cheaper pricing. The cooling solution on the OCZ memory is better as well. OCZ also warranties the Flex XLC memory up to 2.35v operation. No one else does that.

thanks!! i'll look into that, but the led lights on the ballistix would look really nice in my case...:D

Corsair actually still makes it's XMS2 Pro series modules. They don't get alot of press or attention anymore but they are the same great memory as always. The Dominator series seems to get all the press these days.

You can see all the Corsair XMS2 Pro modules and part numbers there. They even have SLI EPP Pro modules. Though for some reason their are no XMS2 Pro modules rated above PC6400. Perhaps to keep the cost down?

yeah i've tried those before with their XMS 3500LLPRO, they look nice but tad a bit overprice

well i bit and moved to intel... but there was an interesting twist to it...i bit the Asus P5K (P35) Deluxe WiFi and e6600 instead of eVGA 680i T-1and e6700 :D , I cant put it together not until thursday night:(...inlaws are visiting...i hope i made the right decision:mad: , but just looking at it, it's torturing me not to even rip it open.... :)

The P5K Deluxe is an excellent choice. The only thing you'll really be missing out on is SLI support, but if you weren't going for SLI support than you'll be fine.

well im not going SLI anytime soon QuadCore is much higher possibility, if make another PC purchase now teh gf would throw me in the dog house and i have a pitbull and he wont budge...

GF? Try wife. I had to fight tooth and nail to be able to spend my money on a new computer for my birthday which is in 4 months. sheesh.

Anyway, is ASUS still really bad? After seeing an eVGA guy on this forum, I may lean to eVGA even though ASUS has been good for me. I've never had a problem with the parts. I guess everyone rocks when it's the best case scenario :)

I want a 680i mobo for SLI (this is going to be a future resistant machine) with 8800gtx. I also want a LOT of SATA connections, as I want to connect all drives SATA. Maybe not the floppy :D

What is the best?

ASUS is NOT that bad. They've slipped a little in my opinion over the last couple of years, but the last couple of ASUS boards I've reviewed have kicked ass. I'll match the ASUS Commando against any P965 board any day of the week. I think the only competition to it would be the abit AB9 Quad GT. The Gigabyte boards are decent as well, but overall I liked the abit and ASUS models better.

Additionally I've had my hands on a few P35's and while it's early to be calling the game, so far the ASUS P5K is my favorite.

Now if we are talking about 680i boards, the Striker and P5N32-SLI Deluxe, P5N32-E SLI Plus, all come up short of their EVGA counterparts in my opinion. Even though my Striker is FAR nicer feature wise, the EVGA 680i SLI is more stable, it works better with different types of memory, and overclocks an assload better. I didn't recommend the ASUS Striker Extreme in it's review, or after revisiting it and certainly not after using it myself for several months. The EVGA 680i SLI is bar none the best 680i board I've used thus far.

Yes that's the one. I've got one of those in my personal gaming machine and my girlfriends gaming machine has a 122-CK-NF68-AR in it.

Which version of the 680i SLI is the best? There are 6 [1] on newegg ranging in price from 160 to 250.

See above.

Dan: I was planning to get the Asus P5N32-E SLI 680i but after seeing this thread, i'm going to get the EVGA mobo.

Will I have to update the BIOS once I get it? or will it be just a put together and turn it on?

Thanks,

Tommy

You might. I haven't updated my new 122-CK-NF68-A1 yet and I have no idea what it came with. The truth is after version P23 the EVGA 680i SLI has been a great board. Any of the EVGA 680i SLI boards I've ever used were all flawless if they came with BIOS P23 or better.
