evga 680i minor issues

I'm having a few minor issues with my evga 680i (T1) and I'm wondering if you guys have any idea whats up. FYI I'm not overclocking at all (yet).

1) The mobo doesn't even recognize my second DVD drive when its plugged in, even though it has power (can open/close). My first DVD drive works fine, although I did get an error the first time I booted from my Vista DVD. Something about a corrupt checksum or something. I unplugged the second drive and no more error...

2) I have one of my case fans plugged into the 3-pin on the mobo labeled "Chassis fan 1". The LEDs are on but it seems the fan isn't recognized - it doesn't spin at all and I can't find it in the BIOS. Only the system fan and CPU fan speeds show up. I know the fan works on other mobos, and its not using any adapters like 4-pin molex, etc.

3) Is the MCP supposed to get this hot? I'm getting temperatures around 180F and this kinda worries me...

4) And finally, nVidia monitor is showing me my 2.2V for my RAM (2x 1GB Patriot DDR2-800 LLK: 2.2V is recommended) is above normal...I know its under lifetime warranty but I'd really like it if I didn't fry my RAM and I've heard of 680i's doing so. Think this is OK?

Thanks

1. is your dvd drive sata or ide? if ide, make sure jumpers/cable is correct.

2. i have heard that some of these board have dead fan headers (i have had 5 680i's and all headers have worked). check the fan controller settings in bios, or use a diff header, or use a molex.

3. no. it sounds like your hs is cocked. are you using the fan that came with the board?

4. that thing about "ram killer" board is mostly from guys running their ram at 2.4v and above. nvmonitor shows it at above normal because it will show any voltage above 1.8v as being above normal for any ram. not "2.2v is above normal for patriot bla bla ram". your ram should be fine. i dont know if your ram is using micron slugs, but mine does and is running fine at 2.325v going into the 6th month of pretty much 24/7 up time on the evga.

1. IDE, but I haven't touched the jumpers and it worked fine before. I'll check the cable.

2. Thanks, I'll try chassis fan 2 or something

3. I'm not using the extra fan, it said only to use if overclocking, which I'm not yet. To be clear, this temperature is the one I found in the BIOS, not nTune. nTune tells me my "system temperature" is about 31C. I forget what the one in the BIOS is labeled as.

4. Thanks for the reassurance, I'll leave it as is.
