OK, does the ram really make that much difference ?? I was wondering if i had a defective vid card or something..
I am building a new computer (awaiting hard drive) that I bought the 6800gt for.
amd 64 fx-53
and 1 gig corsair 3200 ddr..
Will the 6800gt get MUCH better scores and performance when i put it in that system? I sure hope so cause i was really dissapointed on med settings in farcry. I was expecting a much better looking game.
All I can tell you is I get 11,000 3Dmark03 and run FarCry at1280x1024 on high and very high settings exp. med shadows. Specs below, and the only real difference is I have a gig of ram.
Your ram is def holding you back, especially since it's only pc2100. With that new ram you will see a huge improvement, I play at 1280x1024 with higest detail on everything and never drop below 40fps. Also make sure you have the latest drivers.
PC2100 runs at 266mhz. Your 3000+ should be running at either 333mhz fsb or 400mhz (if its like mine). This means you are GIMPING your processor by running at a lower FSB than you have to. FSB is one of the biggest performance gains you can have in a system. Get a gig of PC3200 ram and watch your scores go up up up!
I have a barton 3000+ (400mhz fsb)
1 GB of 3200 ram
1 PNY 6800GT
I can play farcry at highest settings, 1600x1200, staying between 40-70 most of the time (CPU intensive scenes can drop me some).
yea time for some more RAM. I have a slower and older CPU than you do and I get higher 3dmark scores (although I take them lightly). My setup is p4 2.53 with 1gb RAM and a 6800GT
