eVGA 6800gt problems.

Ok, I got it home and uninstalled my 9800xt drivers and rebooted. then I restart and install the forceware drivers like normally and reboot yet again. but now i have hit a snag, i am getting graphical glitches on everything, and i havent even started a game yet. they look like dead pixels all over my screen, even while booting, on the black windows xp screen.

then i reformated and after doing a clean install of the 66.77 drives or whatever is on the nvidia site, i still get the same exact glitching. can someone please tell me what is going on, i hate using the ibook for stuff like this, cause i cant game /sigh

eVGA 6800gt
abit ic7 mobo
1gb corsair xms pc3200 ddr
wd raptor 36gb hdd
sound blaster game card
win xp pro.


please help me out, i am about to purchase a new mobo or a psu tomorrow to see if that will fix it.


ps i had a pny 6800gt and it did the same thing, but i figured that was defective, but it seems it wasnt, BUT the 9800xt hasnt experienced any of these problems.

sounds like somethin happened to your mobo, since two cards you got have the same problems... only thing i can suggest is try messing with fastwrites in bios. Although, this is the second report I've heard of troubles with an abit ic7 mobo. might want to try a different brand/model, or flashing to latest mobo bios and getting latest chipset drivers.

Well I haven't had any problems between my 6800gt/ic7-g combo.

i have the ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe and i havent had any problems nor have i heard of other people having problems. could be a bad RAMDAC controller. RAMDAC= ramdom access memory digital to analog converter. so if you are using a CRT and the RAMDAC goes bad(i have no clue if it can go bad..speculation) then youd have to get a new card and hope for the best.

i will be replacing the psu today, just to see if maybe thats the problem, altho i do have an antec true power 550 psu. i am getting a true power 430 just to see, if not ill have to take it back.

if that doesnt work, i have to get a new mobo guess.

was thinking of the dfi lanparty thing thats like $170 on newegg, anyone have an opinion on this mobo?

i got a true power 430w psu and i play games and dont have any artifacts

it's very odd that a lower wattage PSU fixed the problem. how were the rails on the 550? i'm guessing they were low, since the 3 Antec True 550w PSUs i owned were.

could it have been a loose connection somewhere? maybe while removing the old PSU and installing the new PSU, you corrected a loose connection.

well, i saw this thing on some site that said with the 550 it had some breakout box or something to plug in and it would work with the 6800, which i thought was crap. but i bought another psu anyway to try, just to entertain myself, and this psu (the 430) didnt have any external thing, and it also works!

the True Control 550 has adjustable voltages, but it never helped me much. glad you got it working though.

Yeh , dude I had a 550 way back and had all kind of video issuew with my 9800xt , I went to a PCP and C and bang no issues. The antec 430 seems to be the one to get in the Antec line. I sold my 550 to another guy with full disclosure and he said he had to modify it to get it to provide more stable voltages. Maybe there was a bad batch of them
