ok so i get my evga 6800gt in today and am super stoked to give it a try. i open up the box and pull the plastic card holder out and hear a rattle. hmmm little weird but whatever so i pull the card out of the plastic and see this sitting in the plastic (see pic)
i start feeling sick now... so needless to say i haven't tried it in my pc yet.

i think it came off of where the arrow points but i have no idea... will it even still work? is there any way i can put this back on? i really don't want to have to eat $300 for a vid card that doesn't work and never did! :(

am i able to rma this? is it my fault? i'm pretty sure that was sitting in there when i got it. i've never had something like this happen before. one of the sticks of ram that i ordered is bad too so i have to rma that to newegg.

advice?

Cant see a pic there, but you should contact newegg ASAP, dont know if they accept packages damaged on the shipping :(. Let us know how it goes.

ok, how's this?

RMAing with newegg is easy. It looks to me like something is broken, although I'm not really any expert. I recommend RMAing. Oh yeah, I have the same video card as you and mine rocks.

well on further inspection it doens't go there, there's another set of 4 down further on the bottom of the card (opposite side of the heatsink fan) where it came off of.

anyway for curiosity's sake i gave it a try anyway and still runs fine. ran cs for a while @1600X1200 with aa and af and omg i love my fps.

should i contact newegg or just keep using it as is?

Good God, man, don't put it in your PC. That piece is a SMD (Surface Mount Device) that's part of some critical circuit. It's a resistor or a capacitor. It was probably soldered on badly and fell off during shipping. Send it back ASAP.

I agree, don't settle for something in your PC that is obviously defective. Even though it may seemingly work fine, quirks may reveal themselves later on. I've had to RMA several components from Newegg over the years and it's always been painless.

well newegg gave me an rma # for it. the lady sounded kind of confused because i didn't really know what to call it and i don't think she knew what i was saying :p

hopefully they send me a replacement when they get it. i had to rma a stick of ram as well, ordered a gig and it's only showing up as 512 :(
