eVGA 6800 GT Cooling

Anyone know whether the stock eVGA 6800 GT has a copper or aluminum heatsink? eVGA is selling a copper heatsink accessory on their site for $10, getting hopeful I get it free

The stock cooler on the eVGA GT is aluminum. Its actually of pretty poor quality.

The copper heatsink is probably a good idea - or just get a nVSilencer. Do you nkow if you void the warranty by replacing the heatsink? You do have to completely disassemble it.

mine was aluminum and the fan was really loud so i replaced it with copper water block.

Stock is Al, the Cu is a little better - maybe shaves off 6-10 C. Then again, my case is hotter than hell, so YMMV.

I'd recommend it if you want improved cooling and still want to keep your warranty. Otherwise, there's better coolers out there.

To answer your question Elias, if you register your evga card and purchase the copper heatsink in question (from evga), evga will honor the warranty.

I just wish they put the copper HS on originally and just charged the exrta $10-$15.

hey yeah my evga 6800 gt.. well its at 50+ degrees..
checked it using nvidia Ntune..

I put the evga copper heatsink on my xfx 6800gt which had the aluminum stock, and used as5 on the core and ceramique on the mem, and it lowered my temps a lot.
