EVGA 6600GT difficulties

So I've put a system together, but have been running into some abnormalities that are troublesome.

The GPU seems to be the instigator. First off, the fan is the only noticeable noise coming from the system (using Antec Sonata with TruePower 380W). When gaming on this card (Guild Wars) there are purple and black artifacts in specific boxes (much like what is noted in this thread ). Well, this was noticed and I turned off the system for the night. Came back today, saw the same problems and just ignored it and tried to carry on. Within about a minute I got a BSOD to flash up (only lasted about 2 seconds) then the system went dead...now the MoBo isn't sending beep signals when RAM and Video Card are absent. I don't think the card is the main reason for this major problem, but I'm a bit concerned by this behavior (esp. the noise).

Anyhow, if anyone has experience with a problem like this (I didn't see temps in critical ranges) I'd appreciate some input, after searching forums I saw some similarities, but nothing quite like this.

Thanks in advance

What are your full system specs?

Note that your PSU pumps out 18A on the +12v rail, which, depending on your hardware, could be stressing it (although unlikely, as Antec PSUs are generally great even when approaching max load).

Here's the current system:

CHAINTECH VNF3-250 Socket 754 NVIDIA nForce3 250 ATX AMD Motherboard
eVGA 128-A8-N350 Geforce 6600GT 128MB GDDR3 AGP 4X/8X Video Card
AMD Athlon 64 2800+ Newcastle Integrated into Chip FSB Socket 754 Processor
crucial 512MB 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) Unbuffered System Memory
Antec Life Style SONATA 0.8mm SECC Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
Antec 380W TruePower 2.0

I've been pretty fed up with Chaintech, they have horrid customer support, the first board I had was burnt out before it was even up and running, now this. I doubt anything is wrong with the Proc (as the HSF was performing around 32k rpm and the thermal paste/heat sink were secured). Additionally, the PSU is a stock 26pin connector with the end 6 being removable (which they were (or not really used)) once again, I doubt it has anything to do with the problem, but I'm just kind of throwing out a few specifics if it helps at all. I think the board is a problem, but not positive. Either way, it doesn't relate to the sound the video card is giving off or the performance thereof.

Anyhow, there is the setup I was using, only change I'm making is the MoBo from Chaintech to Asus (seen here )

Once the new board gets in I'll see if I can get some real benchmarks and whatnot, I plan on using the EVGA step-up deal to at least get the card upwards of a 6800GT, but for now I'd like to know if this 6600GT is acting as expected or not.

Hmmm, very peculiar problem. It's probably a good plan to get the motherboard replaced. But if the problem persists, then it might have to do with the power supply. There are some good units out there that have a decend +12V for cheap.
