Long story short my card is getting those pretty green dots so its going back for RMA and I figure that I'd sell the other card as a BNIB from RMA and maybe do a little upgrade now. Whats the new best for the bang card at the moment that is at least better for my higher res 24" monitor, etc.? Thanks!

PS: Nvidia only please! :p

Maybe find a used GTX 280. They seam to be selling pretty reasonably and the extra memory over the 275 would help at those higher resolutions.

I have a evga gtx 260 216 55nm running 1920x1200 with no problems on a samsung T240,

gtx 260 216 running 1920 x 1080 here. I don't see any single gpu cards out there worth upgrading to at this time for this resolution personally.

He's not asking if a GTX 260 will work, he's using one now - he knows it works. He is wondering if the best bang for his buck is still going to be the GTX 260 or if there is something else that is going to give him better value for money.

This is like when people have a hardware problem and someone goes "I have that exact setup and it works fine." That is not adding anything to the thread and it is not helping find a solution.

Now, in regards to the actual question: Yes, a GTX 280/285 would be better but unless you are currently experiencing low frame rates in the games you play I would just keep the GTX 260 for now as DX 11 hardware is coming out later this year.

Sorry for the backseat mod-ish response, but it just annoys me :-/

Are you using it to fold?

And if they keep failing then why stick to nVIDIA?

It's widely reported that GTX 260 and 280 cards fail like crazy when used to fold. It is recommended to lower GPU and mem frequencies when folding.

GTX 280 / GTX 285. Get something with full 32 ROPs / 240 shaders then you can really experience the difference.

IMHO GTX 295 would probably be the best upgrade right now in terms of performance...look around in the [H] F/S section, maybe you can grab one of the older sandwiches for cheap.

I did in the winter so not in a few months. BTW you didn't mention the 275s. Are they more robust or you just didn't mention them?

Well i was responding to what he said, he said what runs better on his 24 high res, my response was MINE RUNS PERFECT
why dont you read fully into the questions and answers instead of bashing people for what YOU feel is not a legit answer

If you really want to go balls to the wall..............

Look around for one of those new GTX 295 single PCB deals......that would be the most(not necessarily the best) bang for the buck................BUT............with 1920 x 1200 monitor a GTX 285 would be fine.:D

I'm in a similar situation and wondering the same thing. Just got my new i7 setup and I still have my old GTX 260 192 but I have a buyer. Anyway, can't decide on which, the GTX 260/275/285.. Not like I need it but I think I just "WANT" it!

Which card would run the coolest temperature wise? 260? Also, post back with what you decide! Good luck :-D

I want to upgrade mine also, just to have it, but i am going to wait until they release the gtx 300 series this fall, then im sure the gtx 200 series prices should drop even more
